Question about Sport & Outdoor - Others

1 Answer

I have a 1991 Yamaha 250 outboard motor. I can connect the harness from the control box to the motor harness, put the motor in nuetral, and the motor will turn over but it will not start. I can disconnect the conrol box from the motor, jump it direct from the battery, and it will start. What might be the problem? I even bought a new control box but still have the same problem. Thank you, Dean Youngstrand

There is power from the ignition switch because when hooked up it will turn motor over. There is no spark from the coils. However when I disconnect the control box and jump the motor direct from the battery the motor will start.

This is a brand new control box. The control box I had hooked up before did the same thing?

I would check for power coming off of the ignition switch. The ignition switch is what sends power to the control box to the coil. You can also check for power on your coil. But I would bet that it is your ignition switch.

Yes. The ignition switch is not sending power to the coils. There is a separate wire that goes from the ignition switch to the coils.

The control box is where your key is at? Turn on the key and check the coil for power. If you have no power then the power wire from the control box to the coil is broken or loose somewhere.

Hello I have a 2004yamaha f15ELHC outboard motor GOOD BATTERY IN NEUTRAL PUSH STAT BUTTON and nothing no clicking

Likely a connection issue. Remove, CLEAN and replace all connections. Tighten properly. Could also be a bad starter relay.

Free download for repair manual for an Evinrude 1987 40HP outboard motor

My outboard motor is old and used. When I went to run it for the first time everything worked except when I went to put it in forward gear the boat went slowly but when I gave it more gas the engine just reved up but the boat wasn't going any faster. The motor is 40hp gale model.I think because it is bought used the prop is not the right one and it seems like it's slipping as I go faster.
I would appreciate any feedback on this problem.

Need to know how to change lower unit on 1971 johnson 25 hp motor

put into nuetral, undo the five bolts around lower unit, take off sideplate halfway down leg casing, loosen the two bolts clamping the gear rods together, then lower unit should slide down[if driveshaft isnt stuck in the crankshaft spline].assembly is reverse, but take care putting water tube back into rubber grommet, and tighten gear rod clamp only after making sure that g/box is in nuetral, when gear lever also in nuetral,or matched together

I have a 85hp Yamaha outboard motor. It starts easily, but wont shut off (with the key or kill switch).

sounds like the ground wire in the control box where your key switch is located is broken are disconnected. check the wiring harness plugs if it is unpluged are not pluged tight it will not shut off
