Does the laptop show a light indicator WIRELSS , it looks like a small top of a pitcfork
the computer should have a F button that shows the make certain the switch is on for wirelss

if you have the manual for this computer , read the part about WIRELESS and locate the information that shows you power management to turn the wirless adapter on

here is the link for the manual

Most probable cause is that your Wireless adapter is disabled!!!

Navigate to your wireless network card properties and be sure it is enabled.(Win 7)

Start-> Control Panel-> Network and Internet (or network and sharing)-> Network Options > Manage Network Connections
Then select your wireless NIC and right click on it, then make sure it is enabled.

Hope it helps.

you didn't say which version of Windows you have. For Win 7, you can go into the control panel and the network and sharing center. In Win XP you can click on my computer and then there should be a choice on the left side of the screen for network connections.

WPA is not very stable and I have seen many problems with this. Simply change router setting to be configured with WEP and use a good strong password in hex 0-9 and a-f . WPA is horrible any way, and who the heck is gonna sit out side your home to hack it? It is not a WIN 7 problem but more like aging encryption.

I just bought an acer laptop with windows 7 and cant figure out how to set it up to use it through wireless

Bring up the control panel, in the top right choose small icons so you can everything in the control panel. Choose "Network and Sharing Center". At the bottom section, choose "Connect to a network". A list will pop up of the available wireless networks to connect to. Just make sure your wireless radio is on. If you see the network you want to connect to and your radio is on but you can not seem to connect to the network, the first thing to do is remove the power plug from the router for 1 minute, then plug the router back in, this will reset the IP address for all devices. Once the activity lights on the router get steady, try to connect again using the before mention procedure.

How do you connect WIndows Vista to Windows 7 through ADHOC?

Wireless Adapter is a device that will receive the wireless signals and will make your computer wireless adapter. without the wireless adapter you can not use the computer to connect to the wireless network. Now a days all the laptops and desktops are equipped with the built in wireless adapters.
First check whether you have a wireless adapter on your computer ?

WIN VISTA/ Windows 7
Click START ==> Control Panel ==> In the right hand side at the top you will see " Classic View "
Switch to classic view ==> you will see Device Manager ==> Under Network Adapters you will find your wireless adapter listed . Right clink on the wireless adapter ==> properties => Check whether it says the Device is working properly or not ? If it says working properly then that's great !

If you do not see wireless adapter in the Device manager , then either you do not have the adapter or the wireless adapter is not working .If you see "yellow exclamation mark" on the wireless adapter, that means the drivers are not installed for the adapter or not working. Reinstall the drivers.
Once your adapter is working properly , try to connect to the wireless network.

If you are installing the external wireless adapter to the computer and if you are using Windows 2000 or Windows 98 , ME, then you will have to connect to the wireless network using the utility of that adapter.
If you are using Win XP then you can use windows to connect to the wireless network or you can use other utility.
In case of Win VISTA, you will use windows to connect to the wireless network.
