Question about Canon MultiPASS F50 All-In-One InkJet Printer

LCD Error: "Check Printer"

Alarm light is flashing and "check printer" is flashing on the LCD screen When I open the cover, the print head stays all the way to the right (does not move to center) According to the troubleshooting section in the manual:
-I have tried pressing "resume" - doesn't clear the alarm.
-I have checked for a paper jam - there is none -I have checked for any obstructions to the print head - there are none.
-I have shut down and unplugged the printer, and upon reconnection, the print head moves to the center and then back to the right side and the same set of conditions appear as described above. So it appear there is nothing obstruction the printhead.
Is there anything else that you can suggest that I try?
According to the manual I need to contact support regarding possible "Waste tank" replacement. What is this? How do I access/check it? What do I need? How is it done?

    The printer is a Canon F50. Print head is fairly new - replaced within the last year

    Hi...Have the exact same problem and called cannon, they said that it is something that needs to be taken into a service center to fix! Anyone know how much that costs?

    I have exactly the same problem, with the added message, "Wrong Cartridge"!!!! I just put in new Canon cartridges and it forced a "printhead allignment" and worked. But now, 2 weeks later, I have the same errors messages once more! AND NO PRINTING.



    I can send FAXes. But I can't receive them and I can't copy.

    Same problem here on my MP F50. Printer head is "frozen" over to the far right (out of sight!). No paper jams. I disconnect power, and then reconnect----I get about three fairly loud "er,er,er's" and nothing changes. The printer head still remains frozen. THe "resume" does nothing.



    Any ideas will be much appreciated. I tried the Canon email support approach, and all I got from that was that it had to go to a repair center. Printers are so cheap, that I doubt that would be a smart move!

    I did everything you said....

    But now I'm stuck at 'EEPROM CLEAR'

    At that point I pressed '0' and nothing happened...no 'INK COUNT'...nothing. I'm still there.

    Nothing I type will get me out of there. I can't turn off the machine... I can't reset the machine....



    After several tries (unplugging the machine, in order to start again) I managed to go through the whole sequence. But, I still have the same problems I had before:

    1 Check Printer

    2 Wrong Cartridge

I FOUND A SOLUTION that worked for me for the CANON F50:

F30/F50 Printer
1. Enter Service Mode - by pressing "menu then copy then #"
2. Select TEST MODE
3. Select (8) PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE
4. Select 3 (EEPROM CLEAR)
5. Select 0 (INK COUNT)
6. Press Stop/Reset key
7. Press On/Off Key

Same problem here. No paper jams. Printhead stays hidden over to the far right. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Issue: Alarm / Power light flashes orange 5 times consecutively (Print Head / Cartridge Error)
Solution: Reseat the print head iP3000

Reseat the print head
  1. Confirm that the printer is powered on.

  2. Open the paper output tray and top cover.

    Note: Gently open the paper output tray while holding it.

  3. After confirming that the print head holder has moved to the center, open the inner cover.

  4. Remove all ink tanks
  5. .Raise the print head lock lever and remove the print head.Re-seat the print head into the print head holder and lower the print head lock lever until a click is heard.Insert the appropriate ink tank into the slot at the right end and push down on the PUSH mark on top of the ink tank until a click is heard. Install the other ink tanks in the same manner.Close the inner cover and top cover.Properly installed: Note: Check that each ink tank is installed in the correct position

Solution: 2 Reset the printer

Resetting the Printer By resetting the printer's power, the print buffer is cleared and certain sensors are reset. If there is invalid data in the buffer, or sensors are stuck in a particular mode; errors may occur. Follow these steps to reset the printer:
  1. Turn the printer off with the Power button (if available).

  2. Disconnect the data cable from the printer (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared) .

  3. Unplug the printer's power cord for approximately 10 minutes, and then plug it back in. If troubleshooting a communication issue, reconnect the data cable (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared).

  4. Turn the printer back on.

Enabling bidirectional support Windows 7 / 2000 / XP / Vista:
Access the Printer Properties:

For Windows 7
  • Click the 'Start' button from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and then click on 'Devices and Printers'.
  • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printer properties' from the menu that appears.
For Windows Vista
  • Click / Select the 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
  • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printer properties' from the menu that appears.
For Windows XP Home Edition
  • Click / Select the 'Start' button from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.'
  • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Professional Edition
  • Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Printers and Faxes.'

SECOND QUESTION:

ERROR LCD: The type of print head is incorrect. Insert the correct print head
Solution: Reseating the MP500 / MP800 print head


Reseating the Print Head Reseat the print head to correct print issues or clear an error. Reseat the Print Head:
  1. Confirm that the printer is powered on and press the button. (The paper output tray will open.).

  2. Lift the scanning unit (printer cover) completely. (The print head will move to the replacement position.)

    Note: When the scanning unit (printer cover) is opened more than ten minutes, the print head moves to the right side. If this occurs, close the scanning unit (printer cover), and open it again.

  3. Open the inner cover.

  4. Remove the ink tanks by pressing the tab of each tank.

    Caution: Handle the ink tanks with care so that your clothes and surrounding area do not get soiled. Make sure to remove the ink tanks one by one.

  5. Raise the print head lock lever.

  6. Tilt the print head slightly towards the front of the machine and lift out gently.

    Caution: Do not touch the print head nozzles , electrical contacts , or ink supply ports . Doing so may cause printing problems.

  7. Place the print head in the print head holder and lower the print head lock lever carefully until you hear a click.

  8. Insert ink tanks into the print head.

  9. Press the mark on the ink tank firmly until you hear a click.

  10. Ensure that all the ink tanks are installed properly and the ink tank lamps light red.

Ink Tank Lamp indications

You can check the status of each ink tank according to the way its lamp flashes.

  • On: The printer is ready to print.
  • Slow flashing (at about three second interval): Ink is low. Prepare a new ink tank.
  • Fast flashing (at about one second interval): Ink tank is empty, or the printer is not ready due to an error.
  • Off: An error has occurred and the printer is not ready to print.

The error light on the Epson TM-T88IV keeps flashing whats wrong with it?


The following is from the Epson Users Manual:
Troubleshooting
No lights on the control panel
Check the power supply cable connections and the power outlet.
ERROR LED on (not flashing) with no printing
If PAPER OUT is on, the roll paper is not installed or is near the end.
If PAPER OUT is off, the printer cover is not closed properly.
ERROR LED flashing with no printing (and no paper jam)
Printing stops if the head overheats and resumes automatically when it cools.
If overheating is not the cause, turn the printer off, and after 10 seconds, back on.
Removing Jammed Paper
CAUTION:
Do not touch the thermal head because it can be very hot after printing.
1. Turn the printer off and press the cover open button.
2. Remove jammed paper, reinstall the roll, and close the cover.
3. If paper is caught in the cutter and you cannot open the printer cover, open
the cutter cover as shown in illustration J.
4. Turn the knob until you see a triangle in the opening. This returns the cutter
blade to the normal position. There is a label near the cutter to assist you. See
illustration K.
5. Close the cutter cover.
6. Open the printer cover and remove the jammed paper.
Cleaning the Thermal Head
CAUTION:
After printing, the thermal head can be very hot. Be careful not to touch it and
to let it cool before you clean it. Do not damage the thermal head by touching
it with your fingers or any hard object.
Turn off the printer, open the printer cover, and clean the thermal elements of the
thermal head with a cotton swab moistened with an alcohol solvent (ethanol, or
IPA).
Epson recommends cleaning the thermal head periodically (generally every
3 months) to maintain receipt print quality.

It sounds like your print head is overheating. Clean as instructed above.

Both lights are blinking and will not print


they call that flash codes or error codes. please count
count how many times the lights flash, here is what they mean

Alarm / Power light flashes orange 7 times consecutively (ink cartridge installed incorrectly)

Alarm / Power light flashes orange 5 times consecutively (Print Head Error)

Alarm / Power light flashes orange 4 times consecutively (Out of Ink Error)


Alarm / Power light flashes orange 3 times consecutively (Paper Jam Error / Cover Error)

Alarm / Power light flashes orange 2 times consecutively (Load Paper / Paper Feed Error)

Alarm / Power light flashes orange 16 times consecutively (This FINE Cartridge has previously been used)

Alarm / Power light flashes orange 15 times consecutively (FINE cartridge not recognized)

hi..

error 1203 means either or both cartridges have short circuited and needs replacement..

You will need to perform the following steps to find out which cartridge is defective:


1. With the printer turned ON, open the front cover and remove both cartridges from the printer.
2. Power the printer OFF and unplug the power cable for 30 seconds. Plug the power cable back in and turn ON the printer.
3. If the error message is now cleared from the printer, please perform the "Self-Test" by following the steps below:
{
1. Make sure the printer is in “Copy Mode.”
2. Press the “Menu” button once.
3. The screen will display “Copy Menu: Copies”.
4. Press the left arrow button once. The screen will display “Copy Menu: Tools”.
5. Press the check button once. The screen with read “Tools: Maintenance”.
6. Press the check button once. The screen with read “Maintenance: Ink Levels”.
7. Press the right arrow button until the screen reads “Maintenance: Print Test Page”.
8. Press the check button once. This will start the Self-Test. Once the page has printed, the printer will stop. The test is not continuous.
}

If the printer has detected a "Cartridge Missing" error, then please follow the steps given below:

1. Turn the power OFF.
2. Open the front cover.
3. Turn the power back ON. The print cartridge carrier should move to the install position located in the middle of the printer. If it does not, close and reopen the cover:
4. Reseat both cartridges in the printer and check for the error.
5. If the error still displays, then remove the color print cartridge.
6. Close the cover.
7. If there is no error indicated by flashing lights, the color cartridge has short-circuited.
8. However, if you continue to get an error, repeat steps 1-3, and then go to step 9.
9. Remove the black print cartridge and reinsert the color cartridge.
10. If there is no error indicated by flashing lights, the black cartridge has short-circuited.
11. If you continue to receive an error in both cartridge scenarios, both print cartridges have short-circuited.
