Question about Garmin Nuvi 265W GPS Receiver

1 Answer

My Garmin won't do anything. Has a picture at the bottom with what appears to be the Garmin - USB cord - computer. Any clue? I do have it plugged into the computer right now to see if it would do anything different, but it was doing this in my car.

The problem with the car charger is in the mini USB socket in the back of the satnav. The mini USB plug doesn't go in far enough although it appears to be fully in. Push it in further and it will work. When it's connected to the computer it's not possible to use the satnav. It's meant to show this picture then.

Pushed it in as far as it would go. Still came up with same results, picture of computer. Could it just be the cord itself?

This solved the problem for me and I passed it on to others who said it solved the problem for them. If it's not that I don't know what it could be.

When the cord is plugged in to connect to my camera's usb the lcd screen goes black and the computer does not recognize that anything is connected, so I cannot upload my pictures

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

My garmin won't work while the power cord is pluged in.It shows a picture of a computer and a garmin

Sometimes this is caused by wear in the mini USB socket that the power cord goes into. The plug appears to be in fully but it's not. Pushing it in further may solve the problem.

When I connect my Garmin Nuvi 200w to my car to charge it does not work. It just receive charge but does not work. If I disconnect it the GPS It work.

Are you using the garmin power cord or are you using an aftermarket cord? Some after market cords have usb plugs that although they plug right in to the power port on the unit, they tell the unit that you are updating the database. The unit displays only a picture of a computer connected to the unit and that's all it will do. Their is a way around this. Simply wait until the unit displays the about photo of the computer attached and then unplug the power cord from the unit. After the screen clears immediately replug in the power chord. This must be done quickly before anything appears on the screen. If you're too slow, simply repeat this step until you manage to replug the unit before anthing appears on the screen. Once plugged in as about the unit will operate normally on the external power source until you either turn it off or unplug it. Simple repeat above when ready to resume use.
