Look at the cover where the temp control knob is. Underneath there will be a hole about 3/8" dia inside will be a slot head screw. Turn this screw with a screwdriver. It will make a ratcheting sound as it rotates then a click when it goes into defrost mode. Leave it there and it should continue cycling on it's own. How to turn my refrigerator off to defrost

Your model has a control Board that most likely automatically controls periodic defrosting. If it's not defrosting, then that Board, the heater, or defrost thermostat is bad.

DIAGNOSING REFRIGERATOR DEFROST PROBLEMS

NOTE: Some newer refrigerators use electronic devices to control the defrost system. If your refrigerator uses type of control, do not attempt this diagnosis procedure. <br /> <ul> <li> 1) Unplug the refrigerator. <br /></li> <li> 2) With the freezer frozen down, (it must have been running at least a couple of hours to give the contacts in the defrost thermostat a chance to get cold and close) remove the evaporator cover (the cover in the freezer that covers the cooling coil) <br /></li> <li> 3) Plug the refrigerator in. <br /></li> <li> 4) Locate the defrost timer (either behind the kickplate or in control panel) and, with a screw driver, turn the timer to the defrost mode. There is a slot on the timer that the screwdriver will fit in. Turn it clockwise. The refrigerator will stop running when it goes into the defrost mode. <br /></li> <li> 5) Wait about 5 minutes, then see if the defrost heater is heating. It will get VERY HOT, so be careful! If it is heating, the defrost heater and defrost thermostat are good. The timer should be replaced.<br /> </li> <li>YOUR PROBLEM SHOULD NOW BE SOLVED!</li></ul>

Frigidare refrigerator model#frt17g4bwd sealed system leak warranty

It is possible that the refrigerator is unable to defrost or for the water from defrost has frozen and blocked the drain inside the back of your freezer. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the freezer panel listed as location number 10 in photo HERE
Once you remove the rear panel I want you to tell me what you see. Is the drain opening frozen over?
You may need a=> 242044007 Defrost Heater
1_4_2013_4_20_12_pm.jpg

depending on what you see behind the freezer rear panel. Are all the coils frosted over? Also I need you to turn the defrost timer inside the fresh food section and listed as location number 23 in this photo HERE
By turning the timer clockwise slowly until compressor and fans stop is putting your refrigerator into defrost. Leave it in defrost up to 30 minutes and if the defrost timer does not turn compressor and fans simply turn again slowly to start again. If you need to turn timer after 30 minutes the timer will need to be replaced. The part number for the timer is=> 215846602 Defrost Timer

On a Paragon 8145-20 Defrost Timer, I know you land the refrigeration circuit on terminal 4, the heater on terminal 3, but what goes on terminal "X" and terminal "N"

Link below has 8145-20 wiring diagram:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#defrost

Terminal N is 2nd wire needed to complete circuit.
In 240V 8145-20, there are two hot wires.
One Hot connects to terminal 1, with jumper to terminal 2.
Second Hot connects to terminal N, and this will power the clock motor and timer.
Terminal X is for temperature or pressure termination switch.

Defrost cycle works like this:
Timer is running but switched OFF.
Refrigeration fan is ON.
Timer switches ON, defrost cycle begins.
Refrigeration fan turns OFF.
Hot gas defrost turns ON.
When temperature-or-pressure limit switch reaches trip point, it switches timer OFF.
Refrigeration fan turns ON again.
Hot gas defrost turns OFF.

I have a rooper top frezer refrigerator the refrigerator does not get cold because the ducts that connect to it freeze, I change the timer, check the heater,is good , change the defrost thermostat, but...

it seems to me that you have a clogged drain, that is located in the freezer compartment behind the panel. make sure that is not clogged. that will cause the issue you are having.

Frost free fridge freezing up

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Refrigerator warm, freezer cold

Totally Unreasonable if you don't mind me saying so. The person who told you that story was thinking of an absorption unit more than likely.

Your proble is related to the defrost system of your refrigerator. There is a timer that automatically starts the defrost. It energizes the heaters that defrost the cooling coil. After the coil reaches a preset temperature a defrost terminator turns the heater off for the remaining time on the timer cycle. You could have a bad timer (stalled) which would not start the defrost. Locate the timer and turn the clutch head screw clockwise very SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. The defrost should take place and will be indicated by water in the drain pan under the refrigerator. If after 25 minutes it does not restart in the cooling mode turn the screw once again to the second click and replace the timer.

If the refrigerator restarts after 18-22 minutes and defrost does not take place your problem is in the heater circuit. Open heater or thermostat (termination switch)
