In most dishwashers it is normal for the water to remain in the hose . if it install properly the hose will be hooked to the side of the disposal and at that point the hose should have a upward lift to the underneath of the counter and then down to the dishwasher / this creates a reverse trap and prevents food from the disposal getting back to the dishwasher . ( it also prevents the d/w from smells and flooding . the water that is still in the hose should only be rinse water from the final pump out of the d/w cycle . about a cup to two would be normal . i hope this answered your question . please give feed back and if i can help with another questions mm thanks for using fix-ya mm .

For the person whose plumber disconnected the dishwasher, let me guess - he replaced your garbage disposal.

Most garbage disposals have a plug that seals the dishwasher inlet by default. This plug will need to be removed. You will have to refer to your garbage disposal's documentation to determine how to do this properly.

Hi,
the first things to look for, are the simplist faults.
1:) Check that the Outlet Hose-Pipe Isn,t Blocked-Kinked Or Bent.
2:) Check that the Pump, is not clogged/Blocked or not-functioning.

Hope this helps you start, your fault-finding successfully.

More than likely the filter is clogged, remove the spray arm(there is a threaded cap in the center of the arm twist it to the left, then remove the # 15 or 20 torx(star shaped) screws out of the filter cover(around the edges)The filter is round and runs around the outer edge of the pump housing it lifts right out, clean it and reverse the process. It's the most common issue with not draining on this model.

Standing water in dishwasher

Two things to consider....clean water or dirty water?

Clean water usually indicates the fill valve is not shutting off all the way and the fill valve is "weeping" water in all the time = new fill valve time!!

Dirty water usually is not a dishwasher problem but more of a plumbing issue. Often the sink drain that carries the sinks water outside is not fast enough and some of this sink water is backing up into the drain hose and filling up the dishwasher through the drain hose. The drain from the sink to outside needs attention as this type of a problem indicates a slow house drain for that sink.

The dishwasher drain line should be clamped to the top underneath part of the counter before entering the sink drain plumbing, this may help the water from coming back inside the dishwasher.

Water standing in plugged drain. Did rinse but water is still standing.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
Dishwasher not draining completely problem usually occurs due to clogged/blocked drain hose or the drain pump not working. First try to clean the drain hose and drain pump filter for any clogs, then check drain pump operation. If the problem returns after cleaning then it is the drain pump that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Water in the bottom and not working

Check for a clogged drain (e.g.: via drain hose), or a water pump malfunction due to foreign obstruction (e.g.: glass, etc).

Note: If you changed a food waste disposer (kitchen sink area) and did not remove "plug" from disposer for dishwasher drain hose (assuming dishwasher drain hose connected to food waste disposer), then water cannot drain from dishwasher.

Our GE Dishwasher model GLD4500N00BB will only drain a small amount of water out of the dishwasher. there is water left standing after a wash. what is going on?

Look for restricted drain system. Screens and ports get plugged, also verify the drain hose is NOT kinked at all. Hot water draining relaxes hose and can cause restriction.

Water left standing inside the buttom of dishwasher

It depends on What kind of Dishwasher you have. If the pump is old it may very well be bad or it could be a drain hose routing issue. The drain hoseshould always be looped up in the cabinet under the sink. If the drain hose is laid down low, the water could be backing up from the hose back into the dishwasher.

you are probably plumbed in under the sink for the drain hose. a common problem is water coming back down the drain hose when you empty the sink. if so take the drain hose up as far as possible in a swan neck. other possibility is a leaking fill valve
