Installing XP to C700

Hi Shin Chan,

Hope you can help me with this. I've tried disabling SATA Native Support, manage to copy files to install XP. However, as soon as the notebook restarts, it's going through the same setup & copying files again.

How to i continue to install XP? Can you guide me step by step?

Thanks.

Cheers!

First disable sata native support because after installing xp and restarting will crash it.so disable sata native support now when installation of window xp is complete ,reboot the computer and enter bios and select the first boot device to hard disk and also disable cd rom boot to disable .by doing this when computer starts it will start with hard disk and not with cd rom .

Hi,

Since, for your laptop you are downgrading the operating system from Vista to XP then with HP notebook.

You need to disable Native SATA support in BIOS utility and go ahead with the installation. To disable the SATA support you need to follow the below steps:

== Disable SATA native support:

1. Turn on or restart the notebook.
2. Press the F10 key when the "HP Invent / Compaq" logo appears on the screen. This will open the BIOS menu.
3. Select the "System Configuration" tab.
4. Select "Disabled" for the "SATA Native Support" item.
5. Press F10 to Save and Exit. Choose Yes for "Save configuration changes and exit now".

For more information on this visit the below link from HP.

Problems with SATA Drivers When Downgrading From Vista to XP

if you get any problem while doing this then plz get back. Actually you need to do lot of things to downgrade from Vista to XP on HP preloaded vista operating system.

Let me know if you find any difficulties doing this..
I hope this will help you to get it work. Plz vote for me..Dreamkam

While installing xp showing error

Hi Friend

Try this may help you in creating a dual boot.

First find the drivers for your network components, wireless card or nic, and save them to an external device such as a floppy disk or flash drive.

Then you will need to go into the BIOS on your computer startup. Scroll to the System Configuration tab and go down to the SATA Native Support and change its setting to Disabled. Then hit F10 to Save and Exit. (You don't need to change the BIOS if you have an ATA or IDE hard drive.)

Next, insert your Windows XPmag-glass_10x10.gif CD and create the partition you wish to install XP on. After the installation is complete you should boot automatically into XP. (To do this, right click the Computer icon in start, and select manage. Then select Disk Management, and you can do whatever you want with your partition.)

Now you need to move some files. First, make sure you have set your folder options to see hidden files and to show protected operating systemmag-glass_10x10.gif files. Then open Windows Explorer and go to the drive where Vista is installed. Copy the folder Boot, and the files bootmgr, boot.ini, NTDETECT.COM and ntldr and paste them to the root of your XP drive.

Then download Vista Boot Pro and save it to your desktop or somewhere else that you can easily access. Unless you already have .Net Framework (v2.0 at least) it will redirect you to a Microsoft page where you can download this necessary component.

Install and run Vista Boot Pro and open the "Bootloader" tab. Select "Reinstall the Vista bootloader" and press Apply. Then go to the Manage OS Entries tab and select "Add new operating system entry" and make sure you select "Windows Legacy". Give the new entry a name (ie: Windows XP) and select the drive letter you have XP on and then select Apply. You can also choose which entry you would like as the default the system will boot to.

And now you should be able to dual boot between Vista and a previous OS.

I hope this will help you out. Please vote for me.

I can't downgrade Vista to Xp

You can install windows XP.

First go to BIOS and change sata mode to IDE mode
or option to disable SATA Native mode

then choose mode to IDE or disable SATA Native mode
then install windows XP

If there is no option about change sata mode in BIOS.
You should insert ahci driver to Windows XP CD using nLite

read this
http://komku.blogspot.com/2007/11/integrate-driver-into-windows.html
you can use this driver
http://cahya.prastyanto.googlepages.com/driver-sata-ahci-4920.zip

Or you can install windows by inserting driver when setup prompted

To install Windows XP with native SATA driver, perform the following steps:

Boot the notebook PC.

Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the optical CD/DVD drive.

Press the F6 key when prompted

Press the S key to specify the additional device.

Insert the SATA driver disk into drive A. (using floppy disk drive)

Follow the on-screen prompts.

Or if both way is cannot be done

i have the third way

use an unattended XP installation disk
you can download it from here:
http://fenopy.com/torrent/Windows_xp_sp3_5512_cdr_october_2008_with__sata_raid_/MTU2MTEzMA==/index.html
after you download
burn the CD image to the CD/DVD
then install XP using that CD/DVD

When i try to install windows xp sp2 it says "no hard disk detected" i also doesn't know how to use nlite.could u pls help me with a complete step by step method starting from nlite to completion of driver...

First of all, as this Notebook is installed with SATA Hard Drive, any retail version of windows XP will not be able to detect the Hard Drive because of which you are getting this kind of errors when trying to install XP.

However, to proceed with installing XP in your Notebook, I recommend you to disable the SATA Native Support option which will be present with Notebooks installed with Intel Processor and not with AMD Processor.

You can disable the SATA Native Support feature from the BIOS by following the instructions below :

Start or restart the notebook and start tapping the F10 key which will take you to the BIOS setup window.

In this, go to the System Configuration tab where you will find the SATA Native Support.

Press Enter to select it when the option is hilighted and set the option to Disabled.

Now, press F10 key to Save the settings and exit the BIOS setup window.

By doing this, the Hard Drive in the Notebook will be detected as IDE Hard Drive and you should be able to install XP without any issues.

Please not down that the SATA Native Support option should be set to Disabled even after installing the Operating System in the Notebook.

However, I need to have the Product Number of the Notebook wich can be found printed on a white sticker pasted at the bottom of the Notebook indicated wit P/N using which I can find the Hadware specifications of the Notebook and provide the appropriate drivers.

Can't reinstall xp pro on my hp compaq nc6320

Stephane, I ran into the same problem after wiping out my Compaq nc6320 and trying to install XP Pro. The fix is to disable SATA Native mode. To do this: Enter F10 Setup then System Configuration>Device Configurations>SATA Native Mode and disable it, save the changes and now you should be able to install XP Pro. Remember, when I did this the drive was blank, I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Best of luck! Bryan P.S.
