Why is my computer not displaying the dvd/cd drive in my computer and not recognizing/reading cd/dvd even after I deleted the upper filter in Device Manager?

Like Vista, Windows 7 has some issues. That's why corporations, school systems and government entities are still on Windows XP. Only consumers have Vista and Windows 7 for the most part.

Since you've removed the Upper and Lower Filters, then remove the power cord, remove the battery, turn the laptop over and remove the DvD/CD drive. Open the lid and press and hold the Power Button for 30 seconds. Put everything back in (DvD/CD Drive, Battery, Power Cord) and reboot.

I installed windows 7 and some drivers are not compatable

Did you install 64 bit windows? Something's are just plain incompatible with 64 bit. Your best bet is to try to find 64 bit drivers for whatever doesn't work

Acer Aspire 5732Z won't turn on - the light comes on for a few seconds and then turns off - whilst the light is on the disk drive will open - the screen doesn't show anything

Could be bad ram, hard drive or possibly a bad display panel or video card.Try using different ram and removing the hard drive then try it.Also, connect it to an external display and see if it shows video or not.If after trying these things it still isn't showing let me know and i'll try to help more.

3. Type in "Diskpart" and hit enter.
4. Type in List Disk, hit enter, and it will display your disks.
5. Locate the Thumb Drive by the size and then type in "Sel Disk #" # being the number of the drive.
6. Once it says it is selected, type in "Clean" and hit enter.
7. Now type in "Create Partition Primary" and hit enter
8. Now type in "Format fs=fat32 quick label=Win7" and hit enter.
9. Now type in "Assign" and hit enter. Windows should now re-open the drive in Windows.
10. Now type in Exit, hit enter. Type in Exit again, and hit enter.
11. Copy the contents of a Windows 7 CD to this drive now, and it will boot and install just like the CD.

Right click on My Computer, then click on Manage. A new window will open. In that window there is menu on left side pane. In that menu, find Disk Management and click on it. Now you see your hard disk along its partitions. Right click on any unpartitioned and select create partition. Now enter the drive letter and the amount of memory you want to allocate. Laptop powers down 5 seconds after turning on

Straight forward method would be to download Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset from, write it to a bootable CD. Make your Laptop bootable from CD drive (ie. is change the sequence of booting. At present it will be booting from Hard disk.) Boot from the CD you just created. Check what is the problem. And possible repair can be done. Check this link.

But.. may be a little difficult.
And while I am at this, be careful when you take out a hard disk from one laptop and insert it in another laptop. Even though it is from the same manufacturer, it may not be compatible.
Another easier option would be to get hold of a desktop computer that is working. Get a cable which can be used to connect your laptop Hard disk to the desktop. A desk top allows multiple drives. This way you can get the laptop HDD as a seperate drive in your My computer, (like you see a pendrive or a CD drive. You can try reading this drive and copy content to the desktop. And burn it to a CD. May be a little more easier. If you have difficulty in reading the Laptop HDD, you can download one or the other programs that helps in reading corrupted drives. Good luck.

Computer Wont Turn Back On

Can you hear if your if your hard drive is spinning??

Try placing the XP disk in, booting from the disk and go through the process as though you were going to install xp WITHOUT installing. If your hard drive is not dead it will show you that you have a windows installation already there. If it is there then it will be asking you where to install XP. You may have to be quick getting the disk in since it seems like you laptop turns right back off so it may take you 2 tries. 1 to get the tray open and 1 to boot it up.

If the cd doesn't boot up, be sure you have your cd selected as the first boot option in your bios.

Hope this helps!!
