Question about Craftsman 675 Torque 190cc 21" RearBag Push Lawn Mower ()

1 Answer

I have a Craftsman 6.5 22 inch self propelled mower that I'm having trouble starting. after many pulls it will try to start, but will die out in a few seconds. Wondering if the fuel filter or fuel line could be the problem. Any ideas?

Check your fuel filter if you have one.
Also make sure you are using fresh fuel...and oil mix if the mower or weedeater is two cycle...to the right mixture and not too much oil.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instrucitons you get with the carburetor kit.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their orginal position before you started.

A good place to start is taking the air filter off. Then try stArtingvit again. Often a dirty air filter will not allow a mower to stay running. If that does not help. Remove the cover under the carburetor looking for dirt in the cover. Also well the cover is off remover the small pin that holds the float in place. Pull the neddle valve out cleaning it and the other parts with a carburetor cleaner then reassemble

The pull start cord will only move about 3-4 inches and then it stops and then cord stops, Troy built- Briggs/Statton 21 inch self-propel lawnmower.

The mower's drive shaft may need to be lubricated. If you turn the mower over and try to move the blade by hand (with the mower off, of course) does it move, or is it hard to move? If it's hard to move or it won't move at all, lubricate the shaft by squirting some WD-40, 3-In-1, or other lubricating oil onto the drive shaft where it meets the chassis of the mower. Squirt enough oil to cover the circumference of the drive shaft, then try to spin the blade again. It should at least spin a little bit now. Squirt some more oil and spin the blade again, until the blade spins easily. Then turn the mower back over and try to pull the start cord -- it should pull normally now.

We have a Troy-Built 21 Inch Self Propelled Mower we bought in August of 2010. We used it 2 times. This year it will not start. It tries then dies as soon as it even makes a starting noise. The problem...

Gas these days has shelf life of about 20 days. The ethanol. Drain old gas clean plug and then try. Also be sure air filter is clean. If that dooesnt take care of it u may have a fuel jet clogged do to old gas or a float sticking in up position. This would require you to remove carb and clean with spray carb cleaner. Also look for obstrucction.

22 In Craftsman Self propelled.Starts easy, runs good for about 15-20 mins. Starts missing and dies. Will start again in about 30 mins New spark plug/ air filter

Oh my, that is so annoying. There is probably dirt in the carb. or the gas tank. What I think happens is, the dirt gets sucked up into the fuel line and clogs the carb, then when the mower sits for a while the dirt goes back into the tank for another couple minutes. I have absolutely no tolerance for this when it happens.

I think that this is a 4stroke engine and runs on neat petrol.Have you been putting oil in with the petrol like a 2 stroke engine needs because this would account for the smoking. If not the check that you havn't overfilled the gearbox oil.
