Connect to a External monitor to verify the Graphics Adapter. If the problem/lines show on the External monitor it may be the Graphics Adapter is going bad. You didn't post the Make, Model of Laptop or the OS you are using? Boot to Safe Mode, do you still see the lines? Make sure the Laptop is free of dust. Clean with Compressed Air if necessary. Have you done ALL your Windows and Laptop Manufacturer's Updates. It sounds like a bad Graphics Adapter.
check the video cable
and see if it;s properly seated.
run the laptop with something that uses memory. if the video chip it going to show signs of problems, it will be more prominent when the laptop gets hot.
most cases laptop motherboards have integrated video cards and cannot be replaced.
