  • I would take the bottom off again and again try to roll it manually and if it wont turn it could be the roller brush or the little motor that runs it. Take the belt off the roller and if it turns freely then it will be the little motor that drives it . To make double sure try to turn the little steel shaft that the belt goes on and if it is really hard to turn it is the motor. The motor can be replaced with out too much trouble it is a few wires and a few screws. They are all a little bit different inside so by just looking at it and finding where it is secured to the body of the unit you will be able to find all the screws and the wires are visible without looking.

My brush stopped spinning, but instead makes a loud plastic grinding noise.

Both ends of the brush roll should spin freely. You need to replace the brush roll.

DC07 grinding noise

I had the same problem with mine, I took it to a repair shop. The problem is where the belt passes through from the brush and goes inside the machine. Move the belt over a bit and you will see that a plastic guide has been bent over and is pressing onto the brush, which causes the noise. Just bend it straight again and it stops.

The beater brush doesnt work on the carpet and makes a loud squeeking noise. It looks like the brush sticks out past the base and gets stuck on the carpet . Works good on the bare floor.

It seems that your drive belt for the beater brush is stretched. This is a common problem -- if you flip the vacuum over so you are looking at the bottom, you should see several screws holding a faceplate in place. Unscrew these, and you should be able to get access to the beater brush and belt. Pull on the belt a little -- if it has a lot of give, or seems stretched or cracked, replace the belt and your vacuum should be fine. If it is not stretched or cracked, move the belt and look between the belt and where it holds onto the brush (there should be a little groove that the belt is sitting it). If there is a lot of debris or hair (I have long hair and this happens to me quite often) between the belt and the brush bar, clean it out, and you should be good. The squeaking noise leads me to believe that the belt is stretched and could be replaced.

My brush roller stopped spinning so I had to take it off and clean out all the hair that had gotten wound around it. I replaces it and now it is make a lound noise, but only when the brush is on. Could it...

Could very well be the belt. When cleaning the brush it is a good idea to add some WD40 at the ends where the plastic pieces are that hold the brush in the vacuum. The brush needs to be able to move freely around the plastic pieces. Add the WD40 and rotate the plastic pieces around the brush until they move freely. Reassemble making sure the belt is put in correctly so the brush moves in the right direction.

Changed the belt now making a loud noise and virberting

Remove the belt again and check the bearings on the ends of the brush roller for play and to make sure they spin freely. Also check the housing to make sure the brush roller ends seat in solidly and don't move around.

Machine is making loud sound, not normally heard. Looking for a local service provider.

You might be able to save yourself some money and do it yourself. When it makes loud noises like that it usually indicates that there is an issue with the brush roll and/or belt. Try cleaning out the roller brush and replace the belt. You can get a replacement belt here:

Makes a loud noise like a grinding noise then smokes comes out and it smells like burning rubber? When I take the (rod) brush off with the belt then run the vacuum there is no more noise? Please help me...

Your belt is worn and stretched and so it is slipping on the motor drive shaft. That is why it is noisy and smells like burning rubber. You simply need to replace the belt. You can get replacement belts here:

My dyson DC17 makes a loud noise when i tip the handle down to make the brush spin on the floor?

Loud noises are usually caused by worn belts, unbalanced roller brush or debris in the roller brush. Check these things. Here is a link to the belt you need:
