Question about Husqvarna "Chain Saw - 16" Bar, 3 Hp

1 Answer

Is there a spacer between the removable housing (that tightens the bar with 2 nuts) and the actual bar on a chainsaw, model 142 Husqvarna? Thanks, Rbi

How do I change the bar bolts?

Depends on Model. Some you will have to remove muffler, other models are actually inside of oil tank. Once you locate the Square head of the bolts, you can than tap them out gently from the other side using a hammer. Afterwards, tap new bar bolt in its place. NOTE: if bolt head is inside of oil tank you will need to drain oil first.

Chain wont tighten up

Loosen the two nuts on the right side cover of the saw (1/2 inch socket) turn them out 2 turns. Use a flat blade screwdriver on the screw at the right side front of the housing (near where the bar comes out of the saw). Turn the screw right until the chain can only be pulled up 1/8 of an inch at the top center of the bar. tighten the two 1/2 inch nuts. The two nuts clamp the bar so it won't move. If the chain tensioner still won't work, remove the right side housing by removing the two 1/2 inch nuts and look at the tensioner assembly and how it fits into the chain bar. The problem will be obvious. If you need to replace the tensioner assembly, a new one can be ordered through

How do I thghten the chain on my 154

loosen the 2 13mm nuts at the base of chain bar. rest the other end of the chain bar on a block of wood to keep tension correct. the adjuster screw is on the other side of the chain bar to the 2 nuts you just loosened. turn it clockwise until free play is removed but but no more. tighten nuts back up. job done.

Brake mechanism stuck in locked position Husqvarn 142 chainsaw

COMMON PROBLEM----you have to push it forward you wont break it, it is much stronger than you think you just have to hold the cover section and push or lever the bar forward, it will go. I believe one Ace hardware guy had some sort lever wrench made up just to do this for all the people like you. so muscle up and do it "youdoit "

How do you loosen the chain on a chainsaw husqvarna 136?

Hi there. On the outer bar cover near the motor you will find 2 nuts. Slightly loosen those two nuts. Then check around the these nuts or near where the bar attaches to the powerrhead at the front of the saw. You should find an adjustment screw of some sort, which will be the chain tensioning screw (which moves the bar forward/back depending on which way it is turned). This has the effect of either tightening or loosening the chain, so turn this screw noting whether the chain is tightening or becoming loose.

You must slightly undo those 2 main nuts on the side of the chain/bar cover first or the bar will not move and the chain cannot be loosened.
