  • Open the wireless router box and examine the contents. You should have the router, a setup CD-ROM, a network cable and a power adapter. If any of these are missing call the company on the box.Put the setup CD in the computer. A screen will come up and ask you if you want to start the setup. All this CD is doing is taking you step by step through the hook-up process. Click Start setup.Choose which language you want to continue in from a drop down menu and click next.Go over the user license agreement and check the box that says, "I accept this agreement." When you are ready click next.Allow the program time to check your internet connection. When it is done it will say, "Check successful." Click next and you will be ready to begin hooking up your new wireless router.Remove the internet cable from your computer. It will be the only one that goes in to a phone jack. Then plug it in to the wireless router in to the yellow spot. Each spot is colored for your convenience, but it should also be the only spot that fits the plug so you can't get it wrong even if you try. When you have done that click next.Get the network cable you found in your box. The cable should be blue. Plug one end of the cable in to the blue spot of your wireless router and the other end in to your computer. It will only fit in one spot so don't worry. Click next when you are done this part.Plug the power adapter into the wireless router. It goes right next to the blue wire, and will only fit in that one spot. The other end should be plugged in to an outlet or power strip. Click next and wait for the system to check if the router is hooked-up properly. If it is hooked-up properly it will say, "Configuration Complete." Click next.Click next to close the setup wizard and begin using the new wireless router. This process should have only taken you a total of five minutes. If you have any problems contact the company listed in your instruction booklet.

First configure your router with below method. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then configure wan settings and lan settings enable wireless if you want to use wifi .Then save settings and restart router. Then connect internet cable from service provider to your router's WAN port.If you want wired internet then connect lan cable from computer to router's lan port. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

How do i hook up a wireless router to a cable router

If you already have a cable router, then you don't want to use a wireless router. You will want to use a wireless access point instead.
The reason for this is that anything plugged-in to your cable router will not be able to access anything connected to the wireless router due to the NAT firewall in the wireless router.
If the wireless router has the option to make it a "Gateway", then that will fix this issue; otherwise, take the router back and buy a wireless access point instead.
As for how you hook up the wireless router to the cable router, you have to unplug the power cord of the cable router for about 15 minutes before hooking the Ethernet jack from it to the wireless router.
Once the 15 minutes have passed, you then can plug the Ethernet cable from the wireless router "WAN" port into an Ethernet port on the cable router and then plug-in the power cord of the cable router.
Once the cable router is finished syncing-up, the cable router should provide an IP address to the wireless router.
If you really have a cable modem instead of a cable router, then you won't have to put the wireless router into gateway mode.

We moved and when everything was hooked up i cant get a connection from my linksys wireless router to my laptop

Ok - hook the power to the Linksys - then RESET - the folded out paper clip will work. Once RESET - hook it up to your ISP provided MODEM [ You must have this service to get on the web] now unplug the Modem provided by your ISP or provider - and unplug the router.
    WAIT
    15 seconds - then
hook up the MODEM from the provider - then hook up the router - then restart the laptop - if wired it will need to be plugged in - if wireless - run your 'search for a wireless signal and you should have it.

    Thanks

With the router hooked up getting on the internet is slow. hooked to cable one direct it's o.k.

Your Wireless speed is all down to the quality of the router and wireless card, and where you are in relation to the router.
Hooking up direct is always going to be faster.
You could experiment with the position of the router in the room.
Check your speeds wired and wireless, use www.speedtest.net.
You could buy a better antenna for the router

What do i need to hook up wireless -g 2.4 ghz

I believe the laptop is wireless.
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
If your router is already set up and other computers are able to go online using the router then you don't need to change anything on router, you will need to connect to the network only.

Want to hook laptop up to home computer via cable modem

You need a router or a wireless router to do that.
If your cable modem is wireless you can set directly via wireless network a connection with your laptop (the laptop also need a wireless card (if dont have any built in))
The connection must be done in this way

    ISP ----->> Cable Modem ---->> Wireless Router o Router ----->> Computer ( 1, 2, or more)
