Question about RCA L26WD26D 26 in. LCD TV

2 Answers

I have the above listed TV, and have asked for advice recently about it. The screen was black, volume worked, channels changed etc. Thought it was digital video board, ordered and replaced card, did not fix problem, actually made problem worse as could no longer get volume, or channels changed. Changed back to old card, and could get volume etc again. Ordered and replaced CEF273A (RCA) power supply card, and still nothing is working. It will power on, but that is all. I do have some electrical background, and was very careful in changing boards. I am totally baffed as towhat the problem is. Need help.

    what is a seine board????

  • Jo Asleson Oct 16, 2010

This information is really not helping me. I have gone on the internet and cannot even find a rCA seine board. I need further assistance with this. Is this a separate board on the TV, where is it located, I have already replaced the digital video board, and power supply board, and I can see the back light inverter board. Is the seine board underneath the DVD component on the tv? How much would it cost, need more complete information.

  • Jo Asleson Oct 16, 2010

No, everything is totally black, therefore, I do not think it is the backlit inverter board. As I have stated, I had talked to technician from fix.ya about a week ago, and he indicated he thought that I was on the right track with the digital video board(cef276a) or the power supply board could have been beginning to fail in some areas(cef273a). First replaced the Digital Video Board(is this also the seine board, the other tech today was talking about?). This did not fix problem, so ordered the power supply board, replaced, and still does not work. The only difference in the new ps board is that it does not have the female connector at the CP410 slot, but this is connecting the dvd to the mail supply board, so would not think that should keep everything else from working. Any ideas?

I thought if the inverter board was the problem, that there is a light glow to the screen. There is absolutely no light coming thru whatsoever. Also, what I do not understand is that I have replaced the digital video board and main power supply board. Why would I have sound, and are able to change channels etc before new parts, but now with the new parts, nothing is working, except that the tv will turn on. Also, when you say you hope it is just the inverter as backlight is embedded into the panel itself. I am not quite sure what you mean by that. Help. Thanks

  • Jo Asleson Oct 16, 2010

What are the PCB parts? I did not feel any type of electrostatic charge when replacing the main power supply board, but did when I changed the Digital video card. Could I have already harmed something else? I do not want to put any more $ into this if I could have hurt something else. Also, I checked the fuses on the inverter board( I read they should read about 1/2 ohm) and they are registering correctly. Is it still likely the inverter board?

Thank you for all of your help today. One more little question. I turned off all of the lights and shined a flashlight on the screen and I can see images. Is this more of an assurance that it is indeed the backlight inverter? Also, I think I just have the one inverter board, but I have read about a master and slave backlight inverter. The part # on the backlight inverter is 1260B1-12C. Hopefully, this time it will get fixed with this part. Thanks again.

Thank you Sai. I am so appreciated of all that you helped me with. Thank you so so very much!
I learned alot today from you.

  • Jo Asleson Oct 17, 2010

I think so. Will absolutely be able to tell once I get the inverter replaced, and the tv works, but now I least have confidence that this just may fix it.

It is definitely a problem with the back-light\back-light inverter. Hope its just the inverter though as backlight is embedded into the panel itself. As you have already seen the tech was wrong and its not then main audio/video board. More so coz the sound is coming on and the backlight does not. Also there is no such thing as a seline board in an LCD tv. God knows what the previous tech meant by that!

"I thought if the inverter board was the problem, that there is a light glow to the screen"

No this is not the case. The inverter board is the one that directs power to the LCD backlight so that it will light up. Hence when it fails, there will be no glow whatsoever. Also this does not affect the sound because backlight has nothing to do with sound.

" Also, what I do not understand is that I have replaced the digital video board and main power supply board. Why would I have sound, and are able to change channels etc before new parts, but now with the new parts, nothing is working,"

The reason for this can be faulty replacements or you have done something wrong. Certain precautions should be taken while replacing parts and the most important of them is to discharge the ESD(Electro static discharge). If not It can damage the PCB components. My advice for you would be to get a ESD wrist strap, wear it for a few seconds to discharge the ESD and then restore the old parts. Then get a new inverterboard and replace the failed one.

"Also, when you say you hope it is just the inverter as backlight is embedded into the panel itself. I am not quite sure what you mean by that"

The backlight is embedded into the LCD panel. So if the backlight itself has died(insead of the inverter) the entire LCD panel would have to be replaced. The panel costs nearly as much as a new set where as the inverter costs just around 50-75$. That is why I have said I hope its the inverter board itself.

Feel free to post back if you have any further questions.

How do you expect the screen to have a glow when the backlight is dead? The backlight is the only source of the "glow" and the other components help generate the image which CANNOT be seen without the backlight. In otherwords the screen will be absolutely dark with no glow at all as there are no other light sources. The main vidoe/audio board diagnosis was wrong as if that was bad you would not have any sound either(which makes me think that the replacement is faulty).

Yes, it will get it fixed. I am damn sure. The flashlight confirms it. See the image is there, but you can't see it due to a dead backlight. Your tv indeed has just one board. So you do not have to worry about master and slave. Replace it and your problem will be solved.

Will it be the seine board?

A seine/signal board is a part of the TV which functions with the display options. It's damage can cause the display to go off.

The error is likely to be from the satellite as the set model listed does not have that kind of error.

Hello I have a philips universal remote, don't know what model it is I thought all Universal remotes was one Model. Last night I tried using it for my TV to swich from TV to DVD and it just stopped...

Great News!! We can program most Philips Universal Remotes with Automatic Code Searh. Here's how it works on most of our remotes.

Programming with Code Search

1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.

2. Press and hold Code Search button until the red indicator stays on. Release the Code Search button.

3. Press and release the desired mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blink, then stays lit.

4. Press the Channel Up button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device could be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit. If you accidentally overshoot the code required, press the Channel Down button to backtrack through the library until the device changes channel. Pressing Channel Up changes direction to forward again. Press and release the Mute button to install the code.

The above assumes that you want to store the VCR you want under the VCR but, Cable codes under the CBL, etc

Note: if the device does not have a chat channel at a button, you should Play (VCR only) or Power instead.

Here is a Code List on PDF that shoud be universal for most remotes. It worked for me.

Hope this helps you out, good luck.

Just fixed ours with the same problem. You need to hit the volume buttons on the remote during the time the screen goes black but BEFORE it gives you the "Connect cables" message. It should trick the TV into giving you a blank channel.
