Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50K Digital Camera

1 Answer

Software to process RAW images

The software included with the digital camera purchased during December 2007 doesn't see or open raw images taken with the camera. The software, Pixmantec RawShooter essentials 2005 has been acquired by Adobe and they developed Adobe Photoshop Lighthouse from this software. Their support only extended until January 2007 almost a year before I purchased the camera and software. Even if the software actually worked, I would have expected at least 12 months post-purchase support and, of course, updates i.e. to Vista. The new software is offered at $199, which I consider unfair as I feel that the camera was sold under false pretenses.
How can I get my RAW images processed without spending on additional software?

Picasa doesn't open .raw files either. But it plays videos nicely, except there's no audio!

I found another program from Panasonic Lumix called Silkypix Developer. It opens .raw files fine although it is not as extensive as Pixmantec Rawshooter Essentials which only opens the Jpegs.

You could try picasa from google--they have limited RAW support and I think fz50's are on the list...

I bought a cannon camera EOS 70D, when i use PhotoShop Elements 10, i cannot open the image if the image was taken in RAW.

Hi found a manual for PhotoShop Elements 10 here:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshopelements/using/photoshopelements_10_help.pdf
It is a pdf file which can be saved to disk for future reference and contains (page 53) a paragraph below:
"Prefer Adobe Camera Raw For Supported Raw Files Ensures that all the supported raw files are opened with Adobe
Camera Raw instead of other software. Select this option if you have added other plug-ins to Plug-Ins folder"
It may be that you have to load the relevant plug-in in order to load these files, or load this plug-in before attempting to load the RAW file.
Hope this helps

We have a Canon EOS 500D. After using it for 18 months we suddenly have a Raw notice and cannot print photos. We dont know where this has come from or to get rid of it. Advise please.

Sounds to me as if someone has set the image "Quality" to RAW files which are more for a professional or advanced amateur use. Page 70 of your owners manual will show you how to set this "Quality" to jpg. I'm going to include a screen shot of this page because it has diagrams and instructions far better then what I can explain just in type.

Also the RAW files you have must me downloaded to your computer, opened in your image software program and converted to jpg file format before you can print, e-mail or any other "normal" thing people do with jpg format.

RAW is just that the actual raw file of the image captured where as the jpg file format is the compressed version with corrections already made in camera. RAW files need correction in post processing.

I suspect you are using the Rebel's direct printing feature which can not process RAW file format, I don't think you want to print RAW as there has been not corrections.

I know this will help.

Here is the diagrams.

Importing Images

The CR2 suffix means that the picture was taken in the RAW file format, a proprietary format. This requires that the images be processed by a software conversion to be 'readable' by the computer. The EOS Utility software that came with the camera will work, as well as a number of third-party software packages. GOOGLE "raw file conversion Canon digital rebel" to see the options.

The other option is to take your photos in JPEG format (not RAW). Your computer can 'read' any JPEG format image.

I have been given a Coolpix P6000 which I am still experimenting with. My latest pictures contain some images which have an NRW extension instead of JPEG and these pictures cannot be printed. How can I...

NRAW is a RAW image file taken directly from the the sensor & is not processed by the camera. RAW files can be edited in photo editing software. If you want camera to record JPEG files change your [IMAGE QUALITY] setting to [FINE], {NORMAL] or [BASIC].
or to record image in both formats as RAW & JPEG use [NRAW+FINE] etc.
Hope this helps you ;)

D40X raw format reading error

This does not seem to be a problem with the camera, but a problem with the computer software.

Does the camera come with software for processing RAW image files?

The Epson R-D1 ships with PhotoRAW processing software for Windows users and RAW Plug-In for Macintosh users. You can also download the latest Camera Raw 2.3 Update for Photoshop CS which provides support for the Epson R-D1.

How can I use the Adobe Camera Raw plugin after installing Nikon Software?

During the installation of Nikon View or Picture Project, your system is checked for an installed copy of Adobe Photoshop. If a copy with the minimum version is found, Nikon View will install file format filters which will allow Photoshop to open a NEF/RAW file directly (there are other plugins for YCBCR TIFF format from supported cameras). If you have the Adobe Photoshop "Camera Raw" software installed (optional in Photoshop version 7, included in Photoshop version CS) the Nikon file filters will open the file. If you prefer to continue using the Adobe software, find and remove the following plugins: Nikon NEF Plugin (Nikon View) Nikon NEF Plugin LE (Picture Project) After a restart of Adobe Photoshop, the Adobe Photoshop "Camera Raw" plugin will handle the opening of Nikon NEF/RAW format files. Please note that there was an update for Adobe Camera Raw plugin for support of D70 and Coolpix 8700 RAW files, if you encounter difficulty opening raw files from any Nikon product after removal of the Nikon Plugins, please visit the Adobe support site to obtain the appropriate update for the Adobe Camera Raw plugin.
