When I am in heavy timber and not moving at a good pace my compass points in the opposite direction it is supposed to. What am I doing wrong? When I walk down the road it works perfectly.

The Garmin 12 GPS loses sattelite reception in heavy woods and that's why it doesn't work properly. It's not a fault and you're not doing anything wrong. All Garmin 12s are the same.

Garmin goes from Auto Pause/Resume constantly when moving.

Depends on speed. If you are running low speed (less than 3MPH) precision of GPS combined with low speed makes device crazy.

For walking, running, or country biking in hot climbing, set auto stop off.

My Garmin Nuvi 255w tells me that my milage is between 500-700 m[g? Why? I have my vehicle profile set at 14 mpg city, 18 hiway. Fuel cost $2.60

the garmin will not calculate mpg. The trip computer does show, speed, average speed, distance travelled, trip time, etc.

Garmin Forerunner 305 miscalculating ascent and calories

Firstly, the ascent and descent are only approximate, and can be very approximate! This is because it's using GPS to calculate your height above sea level when GPS is really only accurate for position Lat and Long. When calculating height, a very, very small error can lead to a large variation in actual height. You should never use a GPS for height if needed for navigation (ie climbing walking etc) If you need accuaracy you will need to get a barometric altimeter.v

As for calories, I think you have identified your problem, it's calculating calories on running not cycling. Not sure what the answer is as I don't know what software you are using but if you are using Garmin TC, bin it and use SportTracks. Takes a bit of getting used to but to really get the best out of your 305 this is excellent software and it's free. Any anomolies like your calorie issue/wrong category import can be changed manually plus a whole host of other stuff. Garmin doesn't even let you edit activities - crazy.

I have lost the pace function since I have added cadence device

Not sure if this will help as I haven't tried it but I found on the internet if they lock up you can "reset" the device by holding MODE and powering ON at the same time (Push mode first). By "reseting" I am unsure if it puts everything back to factory settings, I am inclined to think so. BUT FIRST back up everything to PC as I'm sure all info will be lost on the unit.

Sometimes mine does the same thing. But it seems to be faster sometimes also. They never have the same exact pace.

Distances are WAY wrong.

hi

before you start running make sure you take the unit outside into the clear for a few minutes, dont just start running from inside a building or a new location

erase the track log if you can so that the data is only resuts from the current run

make sure you check the signal for the next few runs

(also run a few extra for me)
