Question about HP Pavilion Ze4805us Notebook

CD Drive Not Appearing

Hey all... just upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro with SP3 - needed the added security for work, despite the fact that this laptop is ancient and should be replaced.

However on reinstalling Windows my optical drive no longer appears under 'My Computer' - I have to use a paper clip in the manual release hole to even get the drive open and get the XP install disc out.

I'm clueless and haven't found any hints online for this kinda issue yet. Any ideas?

Should I buy a new router or upgrade OS?

Well, I find Verizon's statement rather confusing. The OS really has little to with actually connecting to the router and getting an IP address for access to the Internet. Now, trying to use an older browser to actually get INTO the router may be a bit more of an issue. Older browsers may not be compatible with the Webpage that Verizon uses for the router access. You say that the VAIO has Windows XP SP2. Is there some reason why you never upgraded it to SP3? SP3 provides a big upgrade to the OS and there are hundreds of other security patches that followed SP3. Without it, the OS is dreadfully out of date, and this may be more of an issue than the simple fact that it is Win XP. I say this because I have four PCs running Windows XP, and four running Windows 10 on my Verizon FIOS router right now. Two of the XP machines are wired to the network and two are wireless. So I can vouch that Windows XP itself is not the disqualifying issue. If you could provide more information on what you tried to do and what the results were I could possibly be of more assistance. Something tells me the folks at Verizon just didn't want to work with you or their current expertise doesn't go back far enough to relate to Windows XP anymore.

SP3 is the third and final service pack released for Microsoft Windows XP, and it eliminates many of the security holes that previously affected XP. While Microsoft recommends that users download SP3 using Windows Update, some users are unable to do so. However, it's easy to create a Windows XP SP3 installation CD; it requires only that you download the pack from the website and burn it to a CD-R/DVD-R using an ISO burner program.
Download the SP3 installation ISO by visiting the first link listed in the "Resources" section of this article. Save it to your Desktop. Download ImgBurn and save it to your Desktop. Double-click the installation executable for ImgBurn and click "Next." Follow the remaining onscreen prompts and click "Finish" to complete installation of ImgBurn. Insert a blank CD-R/DVD-R into your DVD drive. Open ImgBurn by going to "Start," "Programs" and "ImgBurn." Click "File," then "Browse for a source file." Navigate to your Desktop and select the SP3 ISO file. Click "Open." Click the blue "ISO to CD" button located on the bottom left of ImgBurn. The program will begin creating the Windows XP SP3 installation CD. This process may take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes to complete depending on the speed at which the CD-R/DVD-R is being burned. Click "OK" once the CD-R/DVD-R has finished burning. You've successfully created a Windows XP SP3 installation CD.

My asus m50sa over heats and locks up when im play games all fans r working proprely i think i need a video card

You may need to upgrade your video card. On my desktop at home, we would play graphically demanding games on it pretty often. While we stayed within the system requirements, our computer would often overheat, despite the fact that all of its fans were working properly. If you push the video card too hard and too often, it will cause the computer to get very, very hot. Upgrading the video card and adding another fan solved the problem, although I don't know how to upgrade your video card on a laptop.

Surely to load XP is a DownGrade. As this notebook is dual core, I would run Vista 64 or better still Windows 7 64.
If you wish to persist with an old system, you require SP3 for XP.That may be available from a software store but is no longer supported by Windows.
Try http://www.notebook-driver.com/laptops-information/acer-aspire-4520-notebook-technical-specifications/ for drivers that you will require to have support from Acer.

Hope that clarifies your situation.

Installing XP SP3 pro on my presario C700

Most likely you have a SATA drive which windows is not detecting. Restart the setup and press F6. You will need to use another system to download the SATA drivers and save to a disk. Then when prompted you can insert the disk. You can also upgrade to XP professional which will almost always recognize the SATA drives. Good Luck.

Toshiba Laptop A55-S306 shuts down with error messages

It sounds to me like a virus. Boot up from a recover cd or windows cd and reinstall freashly.

If you don't have a recovery cd, contact Toshiba for one. They go around for $40 to $50. If you can't get one, buy Windows Vista and boot up from that and reinstall.

First off, you don't sound dumb, nobody is born computer literate. It's one thing to learn how to use computers, it's another when it comes to loading or working on them. Don't worry about it reading upgrade from 98 or 2000, Vista wasn't around when they packaged these, and Vista to XP is fine. I use XP Pro, I find that it's better than XP Home for my needs. Pro or Home will work fine for you, don't get the XP basic, the Home and Pro have better features. Also, you just need to purchase A Windows XP disc, and not a disc from Gateway or Gateway disc. Windows XP is sold at Walmart, Bestbuy, or Circuit City. After the install you will need to go to Gateway's support site and download any drivers that you need, I'll list the link for it bellow. You can find which drivers you need in the device manager, the devices with yellow question marks need drivers. If you have any problems with any of this get back to me. Thanks for the compliment on the pic, most people don't get it, especially the younger crowd on here.
