Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

My Canon MX700 is not getting power to the unit. The cord checks out ok. I suspect the AC adapter. Is that likely? Can I get a new adapter? I have removed the adapter, but am unsure as to how to check it. There are 5 output pins. Can I put a DC meter of which pins?

The printer is about 1 year old. It was connected to a surge protector that was plugged into a power cord with a surge protector. It was working yesterday and just stopped in the middle of a printing job. The power briefly came back when I fiddled with the power cord, but then just quit. I then removed the power cord and checked it. I was ok. I next removed the AC adapter but realized I did not know how to check it out.

I cannot accurately check the AC adapter without knowing which pins to check. How can I determine which of the five output pins is ground?

    Thanks for your response!!

    With having no power,

I was suggesting checking the protector, trying to plug straight to the wall,

Change wall sockets, the problem could be with the outlet

Check the fuse in the plug too, change this if possible

    These are power checks,

The 2 guides that would help you to inspect and test the AC adapter are :-

    http://www.ehow.com/how_5158618_test-pow...
    http://www.ladyada.net/learn/multimeter/...

If there is nothing wrong with any one of the above mentioned things, then it is an internal power supply problem with this printer. This could be an indication that the power supply of the printer is faulty.. Disconnect all cables from it for 30 minutes and disconnect the power
cable from the outlet as well. After 30 minutes connect the power
cable to the outlet and test it with a multimeter to make sure it is
supplying power to the machine. If it is not the cable needs to be
replaced. If it is try to turn on the printer. If it still does not
turn on unfortunately that means the power supply unit has failed. Unfortunately replacing this part can sometimes cost more then
    replacing the machine itself.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Plugged in and not charging

1) Use a multimeter, check the AC adapter (Charger) for power.
Make sure it is putting out the required voltage.

Have an assistant gently wiggle the cable FROM AC adapter TO laptop. See if there is an intermittent reading on the multimeter.

Have an assistant gently wiggle the power cord.

An intermittent reading on the multimeter indicates a broken wire.
Power cord is bad? Replace cord.
Cable from AC adapter to laptop is bad? Replace AC adapter.

If you have posted the laptop manufacturer NAME and MODEL NUMBER, I could have given you more than generic information.

Model Number is in the Bottom of the laptop. Post back in a Comment.

AC adapter works OK?

Check the DC Power Jack.
The DC Power Jack is the jack on the laptop, that the AC adapter plugs into.

DC Power Jack checks OK, this is your problem,

MY ASUS F5VL MOTHERBOARD WON'T TURN ON???

Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:

Possible causes:
AC adapter failure.
Power jack failure.
Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
Test the AC adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

My Canon MX700 will not turn on.

Hi John,

Check if the led on adapter is on ( few adapters has power led light ) to indicate the adapter is working.

If the Adapter has light on it, your printer is damaged and it needs replacement/repair.

If the adapter light is off - You just need to replace the adapter

Suhail

My mx700 will not power up. Power is in the line cord. Ihave disconnected it for ten minutes and attempted to power the unit up. No results.

If this printer has a power "brick" (that is a square box that the power cords are attached to) then it could be that the "brick" part has gone bad. I've had the problem with other items in the past.

Hello my name is greg and we were having trouble with our electricity and we shut off the wrong sircut breaker and now our WII doesnt turn on but we are unsure if it is the power cord

The best way is checking the power cord with voltmeter or some unit like charger for mobile phone (plug it and look the phone charging). If the power cord is OK plug the Wii AC adapter. If Wii not turn on check the AC adapter with voltmeter. If working the problem is in your Wii console and it need repairing. If AC adapter not work just buy new.

MX700 Printer does not get any power

I have had the same problem on the newer MX850, specifically after a power failure. On mine, after some trial and error, I found that if you DISCONNECT the unit completely from the AC outlet for 5 or 10 minutes, then plug it back in again it works. This has worked for me twice now. I am guessing that the unit locks up when the power does not come back "clean", and it needs to be off for a bit to reset. Obviously not a great power supply design, but fortunately, at least in my case, a simple work around. It is possible an external surge suppressor may avoid the problem occurring in the first place.
if that is not the issue ... there could be many reasons for this. 1)the power cord wire must be faulty.try replacing that power wire. 2)the power cord wire must not be connected properly either to the electric outlet or to the back of the printer. 3)the electric socket in which u r trying to connect the power wire must be faulty.check out in any other socket. 4)or it could be the short circuit in the main board of printer.if that is the case then it will be very much costly to get it repaired.
check each one of them and isolate the issue....

Laptop not charging

Double check and make sure that the AC power cord is ok and that it's firmly connected to the laptop. Also check and make sure the cord or part that goes into the AC adapter converter is plugged all the way in. Finally, most laptops will have some sort of a "Plugged in" indicator or LED light on the laptop indicating that it's plugged into 120V AC. If you seen nothing like this, then it is most likely the power cord. If your battery is bad or was going bad, the laptop should still work when plugged in. Finally, make sure that your battery is firmly seated into the laptop. Some laptops will not function when there is no battery, even when plugged in. If you determine that either the battery or plug is defective, of course, you can order a replacement online or from the manufacturer. You can also try EBAY for better prices.

Good luck!

I need help

This can happen because of an overvoltage when power comes back. All you can do is unplugging power cable for five minutes, and connecting back sometimes.
If this does not work, then the problem is often the power supply unit. On printers with external power adapter you just replace it.
I think MX700 does not have an external power adapter, therefore you may need to call a technician.
You find the number to get repair service on your owner manual, check also your guaranty terms.
