Question about Magic Chef CMV1000B Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Magic Chef OTR microwave model MCO153UBF. There is no power in the unit at all. I would imagine there is an internal fuse/breaker. I would like to find this and would like to know how to access it. Thanks Rick

No, there is no such thing inside it. This is because the voltages there are so great (over 5000) that even getting closer to the power source unprotected could generate an ark that would kill you instantly. Microwave ovens are the only home appliances that can kill you easily if you mess with them.
In your case the power source has failed and that should either be left to a pro, who has the special equipment needed to test and repair it, or just junk it and get a new one.
Remember, your life is worth more than a few hundred bucks.

There actually is a fuse located on the circuit control board. This is accessible by first unplugging the oven from the wall receptacle. You can then remove the finned plate located in the front face of the unit above the door. Two screws on top are holding that in place. Once removed, locate a metal plate on your right hand side above the touchpad section. Remove this and set aside. Within this metal-encased area you will see, to the top, front, left, a circuit board with a fuse. READ ENTIRE MESSAGE BEFORE PROCEEDING! Carefully remove fuse and verify. This particular microwave model has a capacitor featuring a bleed resistor which should take care of any stored electrical energy once the unit has been unplugged. Use a voltage meter/tester to verify before beginning. HOWEVER: ALL SAFETIES MAY FAIL AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER SO ALWAYS TREAT ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AS IF THEY ARE LIVE. If you have a doubt, just throw the whole thing out.

Reset magic chef micorwave breaker

If it doesn't come back on its own, it probably blew its internal fuse. If it blew while the unit was in operation, then I would suggest replacing the fuse holder as well. If it blew when you opened the door, then you may have a bad or mis-adjusted door switch.

Magic Chef MCO153UBF microwave

There are two things that come to mind, the magnetron is starting to fail, or the strapping has come loose on the fan motor housing, unplug microwave oven and remove top, [several screws] carefully inspect the fan for any loose mounts and tighten.

Replace OTR Microwave

Thanks for responding. It is a EWave KOT-152UW. I think EWave is part of Magic Chef. I think it is the door switch. When I opened the microwave, the circuit breaker tripped. I reset the circuit breaker, and it worked for several days, but the last time, the microwave went dead. The reason I want to use the same bracket is it has through the wall (horizontal) venting to the outside, and I am not keen on trying to cut more holes.

Micro ios totally black . Had to reset the breaker ; is that a clue/

It has a fuse inside. Check the door switches while you're in there. The one in series with the fuse can weld in the "on" condition and blow the fuse and/or the circuit breaker.

Magic Chef Over the Range, MicroOven, model MCO153UBF

I tried the usual things, then checked the outlet in the cupboard where the unit is plugged in.....It was okay, but then I noticed a separate electrical cable going into the wall at the outlet. I went to the breaker box downstairs, found a breaker marked "Microwave Oven", flicked it off and on and away the microwave oven went....It is now okay. I guess the thermostat had turned everything off when it became too hot....
anyway all okay now....thx Janet

I had the same problem. My Magic Chef, MCO153UBF Microwave had similar problems. The Magnatron, Cooling fan, Turn table and under hood lights were not working at all after hearing a pop sound under the control panel. Thought it was the fuse but the fuse was fine after testing and replacing. I checked the circuit breaker wired to my house and saw it had a break to my kitchen outlets so i flipped the switch to get back the kitchen outlets. Then I checked the microwaves Control Panel ( Printed Circuit Board) underneath and saw to traces were burnt. I soldered the two trace lines and the fixed the problem.

Magic chef microwave shuts down

We had the same problem with our brand new Magic Chef. Before going through the trouble of taking it back I called Home Depot. After talking to a Home Depot Rep I am told that the overheat sensor is under the glass plate directly beneath the popcorn bag. Popcorn gets very hot and the heat of the popcorn causes the sensor to shut the machine down. I would imagine this would be the same for a baked potato.
Very poor design.
I was told to put a microwave safe plate down and put the popcorn bag on it. This should help to reduce the heat and not trip the sensor.
A safety sensor is great, but not if it keeps tripping the machine and shutting down!

The turn table and fan are connected in series with the bulb,as you have mentioned that you have replaced bulb,so please check again for any loose contact on bulb holder or bulb continuity again.
