I am trying to use the usb port on my surfboard sb5101 DSL modem but it will not find any driver software for the usb port.

The USB driver is located on the CD that came with the modem. Connect the USB and when prompted to install the driver, insert the disc and load the driver.

How can i connect my laptop bought 2 weeks ago to my cable modem its a sb5101 cable modem by motorola

This modem is USB or Ethernet. I strongly reccomend using the ethernet and not the USB option as USB will lose some speed.
An ethernet cable is a standard RJ45 Jack'd cable (both ends) - check google images if unsure but you'll see the plug in the modem that is the same as one on your laptop.
If you dont have an ethernet port on your laptop (possible but unlikely) then you'll have to use the USB option - this is a usb cable similar to a printer usb cable (square usb end at the modem and flat usb to the laptop)

Hope this helps! please dont forget to rate :)

How do I bypass my router and connect my motorola sb5101 to my laptop?

use an ethernet cable and connect the modem with your PC
power cycle the modem to make it recognize your PC
At your PC, http://192.168.100.1 with username and password admin/admin to check the result. If your PC cannot get to that IP, you need to use ipconfig /renew command or simply reboot your PC.

My Motorola Sb5101 modem will not let me access the internet, the send light constantly flashes and i can't attain any internet connection.

If you have the following lights :
Power light - on
Receive light - flashing
Send light - flashing
Online light - off
PC/Activity - on
Standby - off
Then your Network Access is OFF - modem is successfuly registered but Network Access Control is disabled via DOCSIS configuration file.

I have a Motorola SURFboard SB5101 Cable Modem a Netgear mr814v2 wireless router, I obtain the ip address on router status but for some reason my internet communication losed. I verified the configuration...

Hi, follow the steps below to configure MR814 with your motorola surfboard:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
RECONFIGURE:
1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.0.1
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

I can't install modem drivers for SB 5100 motorola (usb) on my laptop having windows vista. An error is showing that no cable found connecting the modem and computer. Can someone help me how to set this...

Here are the current windows Vista drivers from motorola:

http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB5100/downloads/542708-001-install-utility-b.exe

Hope this helps you on your journey

Let me know if you have anything else.

I also would recommend you use ethernet since you do not have to install any software to make it work.

You will need to reboot the cable modem when ever you change how its connected also Ethernet/USB or if it was connected to a different PC.

Motorola SB5101

ya u should have a router instead of a modem because modem provide only one ip address>and there is no DHCP server in the switch or hub>so buy one router which has 4 ether net port and connect it directly to the modem and connect ur two pc's behind the router then both will get a seperate ip address from the router both will go online
the connection is
modem-->ether net cable to the inter net port on the router-->and two ether net cable from both pc's to the 1 and 2 ether net jack on the router reboot all the devices>and modem+router+pc's then it will work>rate me solved if its helps thx
