Question about Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 Notebook

1 Answer

Wireless adaptor I have been happily using wireless connection on my laptop. Yesterday before going home I noticed the wireless had disconnected. Today I can't turn on the wireless adaptor. Also I cannot see any wireless networks (including others in the building) so don't think my router is the problem. Have selected diagnose network which just says wirelss turned off but it will not turn on. I also do not get a response at all (ie no icon displayed ) when I try to turn on network by using the keyboard. There was an automatic update yesterday morning. wirless did work for several hours after upadte installed. However, have tried system restore back to last week but still no joy. I am running on vista basic. Any help would be appreciated

First try resetting your router.. unplug it for 5 minutes to "power down"... restart it and reboot the laptop... if this don't help.. Uninstall your network card from the device manager.. then reboot and reinstall network driver... if this still does not help.. open your Command prompt (from your Run Menu).. type : ipconfig / release then type ipconfig /renew. this will reset your DHCP server address .. Hope this helps

Wireless connections are best when distances are short and there are no brick or thick walls interfering with the signal between the router and your laptop. Try the following test:
Start using the laptop from an open location that is close to the router. Monitor the signal strength as you walk away from the router. Go into other rooms, go upstairs, downstairs, etc, and you will most likely notice differences in signal strength depending on where you are, or how far you move. Of course, you will suffer frequent disconnections when the signal is at its weakest point, no matter what equipment you use, be it new or used.
Try locating the router in a way that your signal strength is strongest, without affecting the other computers. It's a trial and error thing.
One last thing you could do is to go to your wireless adaptor configuration settings and set the Roaming capability to agressive, and set the connectivity to distance, for higher performance.
Good luck!

I had a similar problem. Hit "Fn"+"F2" to cycle the wireless off then on again. Allow about 30-60 seconds to get IP and DNS info from the access point.
Then, using the network adaptor icon in the utility bar (on the bottom right), right click, select "all network connections". Click each network adaptor and from the "Connection Tab" Disconnect each adaptor. Then restart the wireless adaptor with the "Connect" from the "Connection Tab".
I'm assuming that there are no funny settings in the Properties which are preconfiguring the adaptor for a previous connection. If so remove any present values. Leave the connection set as DHCP as this is teh most common way that adaptors will get their settings from teh access point your attempting to connect to. Cheers.

ASUS EEE PC w/ Windows XP will not Connect Wirelessly

You need to know if your home network requires a password or paraphrase to allow you to connect. Also, you might have to check your settings on your router, they have to match the settings of your laptop wireless adaptor. You can try these solutions and if no luck post with more information

NETGEAR Wireless G USB Adaptor Problems

I contacted Bigpond after my whole internet collapsed due to my amature abilities in fixing the internet. >_<" yet they fixed my internet connection by disconnecting my current (DLINK DIR-300) router from the network. hmmmm... the technician also confirmed that my current broadband modem (2WIRE 2071-A) isnt capable of supplying a shared connection to more than one computer!! she also directed me towards a modem with an inbuilt wifi router that "supposedly" is the best option right now. (2701HGV-W) I'm a bit shaky and the stupid NETGEAR adaptor problem still exists - im willing to buy the new modem if its guaranteed to abolish this problem and give me a better internet wise outlook - please any suggestions will be appreiciated =)

Wireless Adaptor Issue

First make sure that your wireless router is set to broadcast (or if you prefer not to broadcast) your SSID (your wireless network name) or that your laptop wireless network connection properties is set-up to "Connect even if this network is not broadcasting".

To check this go to:

Click Start> Connect to>Show all connections>
Right click your Wireless Connection and select properties>
On the Properties box select "Wireless Network" tab >
Go to "Preferred networks" then highlight your SSID (network name)
Click "properties" button check "connect even if this network is not broadcasting". (while youre here check that your "Wireless network key" confgurations are correct).

Make sure that you are also set-up to "Obtain an IP Address automatically " and "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

To check:

Click Start> Connect to>Show all connections>
Right click your Wireless Connection and select properties>
Select "General" and under the heading "This connection uses the following items">
Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click "Properties" button

I would go with card slot adapters, you can find many different ones but I used Dynex 802.11G card even running Win98, I've seen then cheap on sites like eBay. You can use acble and wireless at the same time and with 6MP, you will not notice any speed loss unless you are running live feeds on all 3 computer
