Is not recognized by other programs and won't let me re-install
I've had the scanner for a couple of years and it worked fine. I had some hard drive issues and replaced them. My programs such as adobe 6.0 and Epson cd printing software cannot find my scanner. I have uninstalled it completely, unplugged the scanner, and tried reinstalling with the original cd that came with the scanner. It recognizes that there is a scanner registered and gets as far as the license agreement. It won't display any of the license text, and then gives the message that if failed to install.

Try going to epson.com. Then go to the Drivers and Support page and look up your scanner. The Drivers and Downloads link is one of the first items in the list. I could not find a model 2490 on the site.

i have vista home and mine worked fine until i installed a web cam and then it just gave up. But now it works great - here is what i did
unpluged both the scanner and the web cam
uninstalled everything to to w/ the scanner and the web cam.
Installed the driver from the CD and restarted my machine
Install the Photo 6 software
plug in the scanner - works like a champ.
The current software is 1.0.3. It does work with this scanner and XP.
You should install the drivers after removing the existing driver and software. Do not hook up the scanner until the drivers have been installed.
It might not show up under the Cameras and Scanners section in Control Panel but it will still work.
When you open Elements make sure your scanner is on with the door closed. Go down to where you import and look for the scanner to be listed. It will take a minute or two to go through its calibration routine and then you should be able to scan with it.
