Question about Venta - Airwasher LW14 Humidifier

Open Question

The drum does not turn. I have the small size, LW14, Serial #0900146100438. The fan works. The User manual is difficult to understand and follow. The instructions and photos do not appear to match my model. I do not find a "rubber coupling" and "locking ring", for example. The troubleshooting page is not helping to solve this problem Is the gear under the fan? Do I remove the whole unit? If so, how? I need help!

SOURCE: Drum does not turn

The rubber coupling is slipping. You may have a problem with the gear case; you can get a new one by calling Venta at (888) 333 8218. But it's possible that the rubber coupling is simply not seated properly. Snap the gear box out and make sure the socket is clean. When you put it back make sure that the coupling post is fully inserted in the drive socket. Hope this works for you ... Venta will supply new parts promptly if you decide you need them.

Humidifier doesn't provide more than 28% humidity

Hi Joe,

If you've got water flowing, but the pad is dry - I suspect that the motor is failing to turn the drum/filter. You might want to somehow mark the drum and watch or check it at short intervals of time to see if it moves or not. If the motor fails to rotate the wet portion of the drum/filter into the airflow - it will be difficult for it to raise the humidity of the space.

I found replacement motors as "#10" on this page: http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/humidifiers/general/747.html These motor looks awfully chintzy to cost $55 - $70 (depending on whether it is a 24V or 115V type). They look very much like a standard clock motor. If that's the case, you can probably replace yours (if defective) for a small fraction of that price - if yours is the 115V style anyway.

I hope this was helpful & good luck!

My furnace is about 5 years old and the humidifier(skuttle190) has not been used in several years. I just ordered a new filter as the present one that I have does not fit properly on the wheel, its too...

Hello, if this is a drum type humidifier the small motor that turns the drum might be bad, take the drum off and see if the small shaft of the motor turn without the drum on it. if it does not turn than most likey the shaft or the internal parts of the motor are craked and must be replaced. If it does turn without the drum on it than either the filter is causing the problem or the drum is not seated properly. I hope this helps

When I turn on the unit, it humms and the fan doesn't turn. Help.

If you can easily get to motor I would unplug unit and check motor to see if it turns freely. If it does I would plug the unit back in and see if the humming noise is coming from motor. Ifyou decide that the motor is the source of the noise and you can do so safely spin the fan and see if it will try to run, If it does I would unplug unit and give fan motor and blades a thorough cleaning. Clean any hair, lint or dust from aaround motor shaft. A small motor like these does not take much to slow or stop them. Plug it back in and try it. If it stiil does not work I would replace the motor. Hope this helps. Thanks

Humidifier drum Honeywell HE120 is not turning.

This happened with my humidifier as well. When the mineral deposits build up to the point where the drum binds, and is difficult to turn, the gears on the motor will strip. The clicking you hear are the ends of the stripped teeth of the motor gear rubbing up against the mating gears. Suggest you pull the motor - just remove the wire nuts from the control unit (replace wire nut over the exposed 24 Volt wire on each as you do this), then loosen and remove the nuts on the inside of the unit holding the motor. A number of manufacturers offer 'clock motors' than have a 1 rpm speed, and flat slot to receive the drum spindle. I used a Loeb motor which is commonly available in hardware stores, and had to insert a couple of small washers as standoffs, so the coupler was the right distance from the drum spindle. Reattach the controller wires, and you're done.

Have a warm air Honeywell humidifier. The "refill/restart" button is permanently on even if I refill the humidifier and the humidifier does not want to work now. How do I fix this? It seems a sensor is...

This may be due to one of two things.

1. If you turn the unit off or unplug it when you refill the resevoir, then plugging back in or turning it back on will not automatically reset the refill sensor. You must depress the restart slide switch on the bottom front controls to reset and restart the unit, or.....

2. It the refill light won't clear after refilling the resevoir or following the above step, the most likely cause of the problem is a scaled up heating element, which must then be cleaned.

I just uploaded a copy of the user manual to this site, but if you would like to download it directly, follow this link: http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000006709.pdf

Hope this helps!

Water Wheel won't keep turning

This humifier has a black drive wheel and a white idler wheel. On mine, the idler wheel froze up which caused the drive wheel to damage itself trying to turn the drum. First, free up the idler wheel and replace the shaft it rotates on. The idler wheel is still available but you'll have to fabricate the shaft using a machine screw and hollow shaft from your local hardware store. When the idler wheel turns freely, the drive wheel (if still in decent shape) can do its job of turning the drum. If not, you can replace the drive wheel (also still available). I recently put a small rubber band in the groove of the drive wheel and it enabled it to get the necessary grip on the drum.

It's getting harder and harder to keep these wonderful Bemis water Wheel humidifiers alive as the years go by. I wish they still made them because no other humidifier comes close.

Fan is running but humidity is not changing

Q: My unit has been running for several hours. I hear the fan spinning, but I do not notice the water level in the tank decreasing.
A:
First, check the filter to ensure it is wet. If the pad appears dry, remove it from the Base and gently rinse under cool water. Reposition wet filter in the Base. You may also want to note the current moisture level in your home. If the humidity level is over 60% the unit will not put out much moisture
as your air is already saturated.

UV bulb and filter are user replacement items

OK?
Comment by Soulvisitor, posted on Jan 20, 2008 Q: I hear the fan turning, but I don’t see any mist. Is my humidifier operating properly?
A:
Dry air is pulled through the system and a fan disperses invisible, moisture balanced air. There is no
“mist” emitted. When operating normally you will feel only cool air coming from the unit. Monitor the
water level in your Tank/ Base. If you notice a decrease in the Water Tank over 24 hours then the unit
is operating normally.
