Question about Fisher and Paykel Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer rattle Hi was wondering if someone can help me, my dryer is making a rattling noise. I have taken the back off and if enough tension is put on the belt its possible to make the noise go away. It sounds like its coming from inside the drum but I'm reluctant to start taking it to bits without some idea of what I might find inside.. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks Callum

Ok will have a closer look tonight, I think the belt may need replaceing but I don't think thats the cause of the noise - buy tightening the belt I suspect its putting pressure on the bearing - belt is probably a nice cheap place to start. Is it difficult to get to the bearing? As it turns out I only have 3 feet for the dryer but made a wooden foot - it doesn't rock at all but are you saying it must be perfect? that might have caused the bearing problem? (presuming there is one) thanks

Thanks for the warning. I have ordered a new belt and bearings which should arrive in the next couple of days. Is there anything in particular I should be aware of when dismantling it? (I'm faily handy at dismantling things)

I guess you have stumbled upon the resolution yourself.
The Tub ratlling could be because of three things.
1. The Belt itself , as it might have slacked after use. and needs replacement
2. The tumbler bearing, that would require you to open the tub
3. The holding bolts that connect both the inside and outside tubs of the dryer.

and do check the floor balance of the dryer.if the surface is not even the dryer can tumble and make noise.

Getting to the dryer is tricky, coz , we need to dismantle the tub assembly. If you can lay your hands on the service manual for this dryer it would be a breeze to open it.

Else i would suggest let the repair man do the job.

I guess I wasnt clear enough. The dryer works ok, except for the rattling sound now. It will start when i push the start button, it heats, and dries the clothes. Just noisy where before the flow sensor went off, it was pretty quiet.

My dryer has started to make a loud rattling noise when drying. It works fine but the rattling noise is coming from the lower back part of the unit and nothing seems to be loose. What can I do?

Dryer is making a rattling noise when in operation. Dryer is eight years old of so. Never heard this noise before.

Rattling could be anything from a bad idler or support pulley or coins in the vanes. If you can hear it you can find it pretty easily.

Hi, Can you tell if the noise is in the lower front? It sounds like maybe the blower wheel has went bad. I can assist you further in this if you need.

Hi my machine sometimes makes a loud rattling noise when its been used for a while. Its a bit concerning thanx tracy

May want to check your venting system to the outside. If the dryer cannot blow out enough heat outside due to the vent being clogged or kinked, then it will overheat causing panels and moving parts inside the dryer to get too hot and rattle.

Fisher and Paykel Dryer ED56 Noise

your rear bearubg is mnost likely failed. and the back plaer is now hitting against the drum.
Part number (Fisher & Paykel Dryer Rear Drum Bearing Kit Part 479317)
you can replace this eazily by yourself.
check that the belt is over both rollers as well.. sometimes they slip off one of them.. especailly if moved around.
but this rear bearing is very bad. If you can find a skateboard bearing. it will fit nicely too. a much cheaper replacement and works fine. must get a good quility one lol (but any flate bearing is fine if you can find some in your workshop or neighbours lol
