Question about Canon CanoScan 4200F Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Windows 2000. Scanne worked great for 2 years. I installed a 1 1/2 terra byte external hard drive attempted to move the canon files to the external. The scanner would not even come on. Then I copied everything back to the D drive. Still no help. It keeps calling for CNQL3203.Dll. I search the entire system for the file and cannot find it. It is not even on the install disk.

It is caused because you tried to move an installed file. During such a process, some files go missing which can't be retrieved even if you move it back. Simple searching will not show you the file in the installing disc, as it will be extracted only during the installation process. The fix is simple. Uninstall the installed applications (relating to the scanner) and install them again. And never select the installing location to a removable drive. Keep it in the internal HDD only.
Cheers. Thank You.

I got the error performing inpage operation on my hp external hard drive. I am running a chkdsk on it and it is now on stage 4 of 5 but just blinks at 0 percent. The external hard drive is blinking like...

if its a large 2 terra byte hard drive it will take quite a long time while the chkdsk utility perfoms the check

click start control panel administrative tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes

automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now start

you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

I found that you get best results by ticking one box then returning after it has finished then tick the other box

hope this helps

How many files are on the drive? Are they in folders? The FAT formatting normally used for these drives limits the total number of files unless the files are in folders. I think the value is ~500 items - this is due to the minimum bytes to store each file. (If the files are in folders you can stack 500 items in 500 folders.)

One thing to try is to move the files to your computer, and then return them to the flash drive. (Formatting the drive after the files are safely on your computer is an option.)

Good luck.

Hello i have a dell mini 910 and it has no space on it. i've heard of dual booting. how could i save, install, and run programs from an external hard drive

using an external HDD doesn't require dual booting.

First connect the external drive, and copy files to the drive that don't require and applications to be installed (MP3s, Avi Videos, Pictures)

Then you can delete the files from the HDD, this will immediately give a boost in performance. Generally, most games run a an Atom powered system don't take a great deal of space, so moving applications to the external drive likely would not be gratly beneficial as keeping data files there.

Dual booting by the way, is the process of installing 2 operating systems on a computer and being able to boot to more than one version. (Windows XP and Vista for example) of Windows and another OS (XP and Linux)

I think I know which limit you have hit then. The maximum size for any single file on a FAT32 system is 2^32-1 bytes which is 1 byte less than 4GB (binary version of the number, not decimal) or 4,294,967,295 bytes.

Partition external hard drive

Yes a 1 TB externald hard drive can be partitioned. Yes its safe to store files on the drive and remove them from the computer as long as they are not files that are part of the windows system. Its not necessAry to have them on the pC and on the drive but of course its safer if you do.

If you're D:\ is a hard drive, you can delete non needed data to free up hard drive space. At today prices for hard drives you might consider buying a larger size drive. Like this drive. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=117008
This is a PATA/IDE drive. Seagate warrants their drives for five years. You will not run out of drive space any time soon.
Windows XP description of low disk space. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285107
If you hard disk is a serial ATA SATA drive you can increase its size by upgrading to this drive. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=117007
