My pc will not logon automatically after a recent windowsXP up date.

Restore to an earlier date than the one you have used already!

Your date setting is set to automatic and your box cannot connect to read and update the date.

You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode). Start > Search type System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.


Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

When the Date and Time is set in the BIOS setup or in Windows and when you boot up next time and the date and time are incorrect then the problem is a flat BIOS battery. A flat BIOS battery cannot keep the Data and Time stored in the BIOS. Replace the BIOS battery and set the Date and Time etc and the problem will be fixed.

4. Select SAVE mode using down arrow key.
5. Enter

There is option in date and time settings. On the right side corner of your screen where date and time are displayed. Doubleclick to open

Click on Time Zone Tab and select your time zone and tick the option "Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving change"

Windows stores the activation information in two files in the c:\windows\system32 folder: Wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak. If those files are locked, or permissions are incorrect, Windows may not be able to save its activation information.

You might also want to check the following registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFTNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
(change Activation Required value to zero)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion
(change RegDone value to 1)

Boot into safe mode, click Start→Run and type regedit then check these values.

If you are not set up to recieve automatic updates from microsoft you should change your settings to download these automatically and keep these up to date. To do this go to the start button, go to control panel, and then to security center. Click on automatic updates and follow the prompts.To get all of the latest updates go to the start button, go to all programs, point to and left click on windows update. This will start the process of updating your system. After some updates your system will need to be restarted,some do not require a restart. You have to repeat the windows update process a few times in order to recieve all of the latest updates.

probably running low on virtual memory try changing it or else there maybe some poorly written software or some kinda virus go to the MSconfig utility and disable unwanted software!

Check your bios and set the correct date there also. If this does not solve your problem check for a virus by running a scan with your antivirus program. If you do not have an AV Software Program check out this one which is very good
