Question about HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One InkJet Printer

Have a HP Photosmart C4580 Printer. It worked fine for 6 months. After my son tried updating the drivers we have a problem. The power light flashes and the screen is blank. I have tried unplugging it but no joy.

    He got it off the HP website. I have a suspicion he might have tried to install the wrong driver (he's 12 going on 40 ... lol).

    The issue is that nothing works anymore. When the printer is powered on all that happens is the power light flashed continuously and the menu display is blank but lit and the wireless light is on.

    When I cycle the power I can here the printer carriage move but after that nothing.

    Hey there.

    Tried your suggestions. Get to the stage to plug the printer into the USB port and get an error that says that this is an unknown device.

    ARGHHH LOL

    No... it appears to be a hardware issue as opposed to software. Guess my son is ungrounded for the rest of his life... maybe. LOL. Anyways besides cycling the power and removing the ink cartridges is there a way to reset the printer to its factory default?

First off I would like to thank you for using FixYa, all of us here love what we do and strive to make sure that the customer is happy when we are completed, to that end, please please please, let me know, no matter how many times we chat, if there is anything I can do to further help you get the solution for the challenge.

I would like to start out with a question for you. When your son updated the drivers, where did he get the information from? A disk that came with the printer or from the actual Hewlett Packard website? This is a common issue as the disks that come with a printer are made for the 'current' day and as we all know, problems occur and companies are always making 'fixes' to the systems, even behind the scenes, companies will send out 'updates' to customers to cure a problem. So, if he used the original disk, that is the problem with 99% certainty. Will you please let me know about this one and we can go further...... Guy....

    You are too funny, my mother(picture it, jewish and from NY) always with a sly little comment, but man she could cook! :) Tell you what, the first thing we should do is to remove the program and all the connective lines that he might have brought in from the download. here are a few steps to do that, and please, let me know if I loose ya, cool??



    1) Click on the START at the bottom left of the screen

    2) Click on Control Panel

    3) Click on Add/Remove programs

    4) Find the printer and click Remove



    It will take a few moments to remove it from the computer. Here is a link for the right one... http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...



    When you click on this, you will need to find the operating system that you are using, ie Windows 7, Vista, XP..... If you are not sure, let me know, I can ask a few questions and get that for you too. Once you enter the operating system, it will open a lot of options, look for the driver(in English) and click and download it when prompted. Humor me whilst this is under way and turn off the printer and remove the ink and disconnect the printer from the power source and the computer(this resets the chip and allows for "new installation". Once the driver is on board, it will prompt you to turn on the printer, please do it like this, plug it in to the power, then the computer then load the ink and let the prompts talk you through the installation.

    WOW, now that is very strange. i went through the properties of the printer and they are all good and do not seem to need anything special. I will assume that you did the new install for the drivers and that it still kicks. Now, is there ANY option to click on when the error comes up?? like an install button, extract option???

    Yes there is... for the HP 4500 and above, this is what the factory reccommends.....Turn the printer off and then on. When the printer begins its memory count, press and hold down the Checkmark button until all the main LED signal lights illuminate and stay illuminated. Then release the Checkmark button, and use the Up/Down arrow keys to find the Cold Reset option, then press the Checkmark button again to choose that option.

Hello,

Most recent Mac OSX versions have the printer driver already included however you need to download and install the scanning driver (TWAIN driver).

You can use this link to the HP download site and download the driver package that includes the scanning software.

When I try to scan from the two pc's that use the same HP 4500 photosmart on a wireless network I get an error mesage. Yet when I connect a laptop with the usb cable into the printer HP 4500 it scans...


Base from the description of your problem this is some kind of issue with the software , and according to you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

So if you have not done reinstalling using the software from HP site better reinstall the softwrae using that and check if that corrects the issue.

Photosmart c4580 goes offline. using in wireless mode


My HP photosmart c4580 will print from my computers via USB but anytime I try print wrelessly it tells me it is offline. After all the problems I have had with this printer going into deep sleep mode and the patch updates which seem to eliminate this problem I am now burdened by this,
