Sometimes the RF frequency from the outside transmitter loses contact with the clock's frequency ( it has happened to me only twice in 6 years ), and then the outside temp will not show. Simple solution to fix this is: Take down the outside transmitter and the internally mounted clock. Remove batteries from both. Wait about 10 mts. First install batteries in the transmitter, then after about 30 seconds, install batteries in the clock. In about 5 mts, you will find the clock showing the external temp like before.

I'm having the same problem and can't find an answer. Seems this also happened with another model we had - planned obsolescence? It was working fine, flashing due to low battery. Now, nothing from outside. Annoying.

If you are replacing the batteries on the remote, also remove the batteries in the base. The remote batteries must be installed first, then the batteries in the base.

I had the same issue. I opened the base, pulled a battery out and put it back in, and now it works fine. The same thing happens whenever the base loses signal from the remote (such as blockage or whatever)....the base has to be reset to reacquire the signal from the remote.
Why didn't they just put a reset button on the base (to save opening the case each time)?

I had tried that before, and tried it again now, and again no success. My model does have reset buttons, on both outside and inside base units; i punched them to no avail.

Use Lithium batteries, they still work in the cold.

Changed batteries and now cannot get an outdoor reading.how do I fix this?

  • Remove all batteries
  • Install batteries in outdoor unit
  • Make your way indoors at a leisurely pace. This allows the outdoor unit to initialize and begin sending data
  • Install batteries in indoor unit. You should see outdoor temperature displayed
In cold weather, the outdoor temperature display may disappear due to frozen batteries. At the moment my reading is - - because it is around 40 deg. F. However, in a day or two when the outdoor temperature reaches 50 deg., the outdoor temperature will be displayed again. All in all, rather whimsical.

Just put new batteries in both units but can't get the oudoor temp to show - what have ee done wrong?

Replacement has to be done in a certain order.
  • Remove all batteries
  • Install batteries in outdoor unit. Allow time for unit to initialize and begin transmitting temp.
  • Install batteries in indoor unit. You should see outdoor temperature displayed.

You may find that the outdoor temperature is not transmitted in very cold weather. Right now it is below freezing and my indoor unit is showing - - for outdoor temperature.

Why isn't outdoor temperature displayed on indoor unit?

I have a La Crosse unit right in front of me and it is showing +18 F tonight. Saturday, we are supposedly going to sub-zero.
With regard to your problem, La Crosse instructions are very specific about the battery replacement procedure. Remove all batteries from both units, then install new batteries in the outdoor unit. Allow time for the outdoor unit to "initialize" and begin sending temperature data. Install new batteries in the indoor unit and you should see the outdoor temperature displayed.

You may have to "reset" it by removing both indoor and outdoor unit batteries, waiting briefly, then reinstalling batteries in the outdoor unit followed by the indoor unit. After awhile, the outdoor unit should begin sending information to the indoor unit.

According to instructions for similar systems, you have to replace batteries in the outdoor unit first, then the indoor unit and wait 10 minutes without pressing any buttons for the indoor unit to begin displaying the outdoor temperature.
