Remote makes tv start to operate then flicks of to standby immediately

Hi Barrym,
You have not mentioned anything about the make and model of your TV. If you do so, it will help us to suggest you the solution. Your TV is going in the protection mode as soon as you switch it on. There can be several things responsible for this. A proper check can decide the actual cause. Please consult some local TV tech.

Ur5u-8780l not operating channels on Magnavox TV. Tried all codes and switched channel control to TV, still nothing.

If you are using a universal do not expect it to even if it programs to have all the functions you need or want or had with the original remote.

Universal remotes are far from UNIVERSAL.

The best argument for an original remote is even if it programs it will just not have all the features needed or wanted that the original had.

Hope this clears things up a little.

Tv#2 plays the exact same thing as tv#1. remote that goes with tv#2 not working cause remote of tv#1 working both tvs.

It sounds like the receiver may be in Single Mode which will make both TV's show the same picture. On the lower right hand side of the receiver will be a mode light. If it is under Single then press the mode button (may be inside a panel) and it should switch to Dual mode. This will allow both TV's to operate independently. Let me know if the problem persists!

The tv doesn't turn on. checked power and both dvd and cable box work.

Obviously you must make sure the power is plugged in.
You should also try to get up and manually operate the power
switch on the thing, to be sure some of the 'StUpId' things aren't the actual problems.
I could be the remote!

When all of this is for sure, call a tech. Its big and dangerous for you to get into the back of.

If you were in VB you could ask me.

29" LG Flatron TV bought in 2007. On starting TV,

That kind of prolem is commonly caused by dried electrolytic capacitor on the low voltage power supply. Leaky capacitor affect the performance of the B+ once sense by the processor it will automatically shuts down the unit.
I've advice you to send it to qualified service center to isolate the problem because oscillator is also going to check for normal operation. This is quite technical and not DIY.

Thanks for using fixya.

Hdtv only the power button work.

What "inputs" are on the back of the TV,
so that you can connect the PlayStation and/or the DVD player?

Is there a "setup" button on the TV itself,
and "up/down" and "left-right" and "select" buttons,
that you can use to tell the TV to accept input from "tuner" or "cable" or "DVD" or "Composite" or "SVGA" sources?

Can you telephone the Dish Network support-desk, and get them to "program" your Dish Network remote-control with the specific settings for your specific brand/model of TV?

Tv won't stop changing channels

You need to isolate the problem.
1) Unplug the set for a few seconds then plug it in.
2) Operate the TV with the control/buttons on the TV. (Channels etc)
If the TV operates correctly then do the following.
3) Try operating with the remote unit. If the problem returns then it's the remote failing.

Sometime remotes can be reset.
Try this;
Step 1- Pull the batteries out of the remote and leave them out until Step 4.
Step 2- Press and release each and every button one at a time on the remote control until every button has been pressed and released at least once!
Step 3- If your remote has slide switches, you must move the switch to each position then repeat the button pushing in Step 2.
(When you're done, be sure to put the slide switch in the correct position to operate the unit the remote came with!)
Step 4- Put the batteries back into the remote, being very careful to install them correctly.
New batteries should be used if you're not sure about the old ones.

Try it again. If the problem is still there then the remote is bad.
Since this is a new TV you should use your warranty to replace any bad parts.

Directv universal remote

ok i have a sylvania tv/vcr combo, similar problem, here's how i got the directv remote (RC23 & RC32) to operate basic t.v. functions:
-First i found the code that worked for the vcr (20000 in my case).
-i programmed "AV1" to 20000, this allowed me to power the tv on/off, change the channels but not operate the volume, so...
-after plugging in the 20000 code (with the slelector switch on AV1 still):
1. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys until the
green light under the TV position flashes twice, then
release both keys.
2. Using the number keys, enter 9-9-3. (The green light
will flash twice after the 3.)
3. Press select
that allowed me to operate the t.v. volume from the remote w/ the selector switch in any position, the only thing is i have to switch to AV1 in order to power off the T.v.
hope this helps in your case

Sony KV-27FS100L -

This is due to switches malfuction due to corrosion in switch and dust accumulated in the switch. Since you rarely used switch now after failure of remote of remote control you tried to operate the switch. Another thing you said did"t get picture, maybe memory problem is there. This can be sorted out by the technician only.
