Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My washer needed a good clean so I removed the back and the top, easy to do, cleaned what I could, put it back together, the machine is not working at all. There is a green lever facing the washing machine to the right, it click in three places, I am wondering if this has moved and as a result the machine won't work. Also, their is a sensor for the lid, I have made sure this is shut so it does not sense that the machine isn't secure. What can I do, I am hoping it is a simple problem.

Thanks for your reply. It is a Simpson Esprit 450 Heav;y Duty washer. Sorry my details were insufficient. Lifting the top of the loader mean the case and not the lid. I made sure the lid was shut when attempting to use the start button. You are right there is a thread there next to the green lever. It looked so simple but it is not familiar to the eye and I am not knowledgeable. My concern is paying out a lot of money for something minor to fix. Can you please let me know if the above helps you any further. The job of cleaning it up was not complete as I could in no way remove the bolt at the base of the tumbler so I did not remove anything vital. Thanks again

Hi Sorry to trouble you about the Simpson Esprit 450, but I have been able to determine with a freinds help what the problem is. It is to do with the green lever and switch beneath the washers lid that control the water flow once the lid is closed. As this is not happening and we have tried adjusting it I will call someone in. By lifting the lid and agitating the switch manually it will allow the water flow but it has to catch on something or jag unto something, it did work by closing the lid and the water did flow a few times but when we repositioned it to where it should be standing it stopped doing this. Is this something to do with the tension on the switch that it is latched unto (beneath the lid) which also control the green lever (which is positioned so that if the barrel is imbalanced it knocks against it and stops the cycle). Please assist.

Dish machine sticks in rinse cycle

Check the solenoid valve on the rinse piping at the top back of the machine. shut water off and take the coil and the top off of the solenoid, carefully remove the innards (so as not to lose them and to remember how they went together) check for debris inside and clean out. Put it back together and try it. If that doesn't work, you will need to replace the solenoid valve. Cost is around $100 at Grainger for a suitable valve or if you want factory part, it is around $350 from Hobart.

I have a whirlpool duet sport washer and the question I have is an easy one: how to get the front of th washer off so that I can clean the drain on it? I am afraid that I will break it or take to much off...

Hi, you access the pump as follows:
1. Unplug the machine
2. Remove the lower front panel (the full width metal panel below the door). There should be 3 or 4 screws holding it in place. You may have to tilt the washer back slightly to access the screws.
3. The pump is mounted to the base, and faces forward. Unscrew the clean out plug from the front. Use a shallow pan to catch the small amount of water that is in the pump and hoses. Clean the screen, etc.
4. Put it all back together and plug it in.

Good luck.

The f 28 is a comun between the motor control board and ccu. What you need is a can of electronics cleaner.unplug washer remove top of washer should be white box top right side remove each wire clean wire contact and board contacts do one at a time so u don't get messed up..Go to lower section of washer white board in rear left/that is the motor control board clean the contacts on board and wires /put unit back together....tip if that does not work///// best to get in a pro with a meter to do further test......good luck

Water colects in lid sometime during the cycle.Drains onto washed clothes when lifting the lid to remove clothes. Water seems to be combined with fabric softener. Bleach holder also is filled with water....

I had the exact same problem. The problem is that your fabric softener dispenser is clogged up with a lot of dried, sticky fabric softener. The flooding comes from the part of the cycle when water that is to be flushed through the fabric softener dispenser can't drain properly so it spills into the bleach dispenser and onto the top and into the lid gasket as well.

To remove the dispenser for cleaning, you need to open the top of the washer. (First pull it away from the wall.) Carefully pry off the little emblem in the front center of the washer lid. Then remove the screw. Then slide the top forward to you about a 1/2 inch and prop it up carefully.

You then need to remove both hoses that are attached to the bleach and fabric softener dispenser (part of the same unit). Then unsnap the combined unit from the washer top. Then clean all the gunk out by running it under scalding hot water in the laundry tub and swirling the gunk out. Don't attampt to remove the blue round fabric dispenser part from the unit.

Put it all back together and you're good until you clog it up again with too much fabric softener; maybe several years again.

Good luck.

How do you take the center spinner thing out so you can wash it?

My husband is a plumber. he says u have to unbolt the top of the machine and the sides. then disconnect the drum (the part u put the clothes in) and then take the belt off and slide the drum out and separate the drum from the center post. that leaves the center post and the motor. then u can clean it and put it back together. he says its not an easy process. if u need more help please feel free to ask!

Our frigidaire front loading washer is not draining properly. It is 2 years old. When the pump starts to run, it sounds a little strange. Is pump failure common in these washers, and how much does it cost...

pump failure is not common!! however, remembering to remove objects from our pockets, or washing stringy stuff like rag rugs, or cutoffs with fringe, etc is common..
foreign material will wind itself around the armature of the motor causing noises and poor pumping performance.
you can access the pump by removing the kick plate below the door. if you are so inclined you could remove the pump and check for and correct any blockages or other troubles that can be removed.
however if the pump does need replacement its not a tough job, just cumbersome and time consuming to keep it neat for the customers sake.
137108100 - PUMP-WATER about $90 depending on where you look..
hope this helps,
best of luck,

Lint filter

Hi Bob... You probably have a buildup of crud in the outer tub itself, or perhaps someone washed a rug and the backin has come off and is all in the outer tub and little by litter it is cloggin up the water pump. I would suggest that you pull the inner basket out of the machine and do a good cleaning of the machine. It's rather easy to remove that inner basket- you only need a phillips screw driver!
1. Pop out the two plastic white caps near the front/top (under the washer lid but on the top of the washer) and remove each screw.
2. Remove the agitator by popping the fabric softener cap out and simply reaching down in the center and unscrewing the white plastic "tee" nut that secures it to the agitator shaft and lift the agitator up and out.
3. Lift the machine's top up (it lifts up just like the lid does)
4. Unsnap the "tub collar" from the washer tub, (requires no tools!)
5. Grab ahold of that entire inner basket and lift it right up and out of the machine. (you may want a helper to hold the machine top back for you)

Now with that basket out, you can see what you need to do as far as any kind of build-up. You can wipe clean the inner plastic tub and remove any lint/rug backing/crud you see, and you can take that basket and clean it up in a laundry tub, of it is warmer where you live, take it outside and spray it down with a garden hose. The underside is probably going to filthy. The outer side of the inner tub is almost like a cheese grater, it might have some lint snagged in the holes. Just spray it down and clean everything up. Put it back together and you're good to go again.
It takes me about 10 minutes tops to pull the inner basket. Fisher Paykel's are very easy to work on.

Washer won't spin.

From Howtomendit: key point I missed was that you need to pull the motor apart after you have taken it out of the machine before you can get access to the screws holding the brushes in. (ie: unscrew the four bolts). Not as difficult or scary as it looked!

please read thro first.
first unplug it, pull it out so you have some work space, take off back plate, remove belt undo (should be white rectangle plastic block with wire attached), remove green+yellow wire undo bolts which hold motor to drum, gently ease out motor (please be aware of sharp edges), run screwdriver down 1 side of motor so you put it back together same way you took it apart, unscrew 4 bolts that hold motor together take top bit of dont loose spacer ring, place to 1 side, remove middle comutator the end the brushes are touching will need a proper clean wd40 maybe wipe clean with cloth so its not dull let dry, undo carbon brushes, take plate off also clean then clean what they were attached to when dry replace in reverse order gently (with new brushes) then replace back on machine plug back in and test by running spin program found at bottom of dail if i have my mod/num right let it get to full spin watch motor if it sparks an looks like blackpool illuminations motors no good will need new 1 sorry.
