Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108 DVD Camcorder

2 Answers

My son has a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108. He hasn't used it much but had to have it repaired after a friend dropped it. He tried to use the camera recently and now the camera won't record. Screen remains gray (battery is charged and there's a disc inside) and when you look through the viewer you can't see anything. The lens is open.

The problem is that it was repaired two years ago. My son used it since, but only a few times.

Yes. The screen shows the controls.

The thing is that the screen worked after is was fixed the first time and it hasn't been dropped since. When my son's friend dropped it, the camera worked sporadically and when it did, the screen image was upside down. We had the camera fixed and it worked fine. It was only used a few times after the repair and it has not been dropped again. Now, however. no image appears on the screen or through the eye viewer (although the controls appear) . However, the screen works in playback mode. Just trying to figure out what's wrong before sending it out to be repaired - don't want to hear it's not fixable or that the fix costs more than a new camera. Thanks for your help!

Thats it. The drop has damaged the image sensor. That is why you are not able to see what you are focusing on the image sensor. LCD screen is good as you can see the controls. You should ship the camcorder to Sony so that they can fix it for you. If you would like me to provide contact details for customer support. Please specify your country, state.

Well this repair is gonna cost you around 150-200$. Its upto you to decide whether you want to get it fixed or not. But I have always told my customers this. If the camera is dropped or if there is a water lodge then it is usually better to get a new camera/camcorder. The screen and sensor are the two most common components that bear the brunt of a fall/water lodge

Hi! The fix may have failed. The circuit board may be faulty thats why the functions are failing. Please send it back to the repair guy and ask him to take a good look on the circuit board. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

It can and do take some time to use these disks, this is the reason camera makers dropped putting DVD in movie cameras, simply never worked well, grab a digital 8mm camera if you like reliable cameras.
