    Hi

I have disconnected and reconnected the keyboard a few times now and still not working.

I fiddled with the mini pci wireles card cables and the keyboard worked for a short while then stopped again.

have checked out the link to dissasembly thanks and have done everything correctly.

  • radish1240 Oct 16, 2010

The other thing I've just noticed is that the blue wireless light will not switch off when i press the button.

  • radish1240 Oct 16, 2010

Hve removed the wireless card and made sure the cables are not touching anything
restarted the comp and still no keyboard the wireless light remains on.

  • radish1240 Oct 16, 2010

    Hi
I suppose that is a possibility, thanks for all your help.
Everything else is ok though I even connect wirelessly.

  • radish1240 Oct 16, 2010

I was also thinking that maybe the keyboard had been disabled with an fn key or something.

  • radish1240 Oct 16, 2010

Keyboard not working after replacing screen, very strange.
All connections double checked and ok
everything else ok except the wireless light will not turn off but can connect wirelessly.

  • radish1240 Oct 16, 2010

    Thanks
It is detected in device manager, will try what you suggested

  • radish1240 Oct 16, 2010

Nope still no keyboard very strange.
I did not check that the keyboard was working before i changed the screen so perhaps that was damaged anyway.

  • radish1240 Oct 16, 2010

Yes I suspect that the keyboard has a problem but not 100% as it did work very briefly when I jiggled the wireless mini pc card cables.
The usb keyboard works fine as does everything else on the comp except that the wireless light will not switch off but connection to the internet is fine .
    odd behavior indeed .
Going to suggest he uses onscreen keyboard or a mini usb keyboard as I dont want the customer to buy a new keyboard if it still does not work.
    Thanks

  • radish1240 Oct 16, 2010

Yes thanks, confirmed what I suspected.

Hi. check if windows was able to detect the keyboard by going to control panel and click on system then device manager. Your keyboard should be listed there under the lists of devices. If keyboard is not present then there might be a problem on the inside. Possible physical connections from the keyboard going to the motehrboard. If the keyboard is listed under the devices try to delete the keyboard and restart the computer. Computer should re-detect the keyboard again upon restart.

All the best!

i recommend to check again all the connection inside. check the flex cable of the keyboard. if everything is in place and you are getting the same problem then there might be aproblem with the keyboard already.

Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.

Keyboard not working after replacing the screen is very strange. Dissasemble the laptop a bit so you can remove the keyboard and check the connector. - reconnect the keyboard.

Here is the service manual for your laptop, see page 103 or 5.19 to remove the keyboard.
Note that you need to also follow instruction on section 5.3 for preparing the notebook for dissasembly.
And section 5.6 for removing memory module/mini pci compartment cover.

this is because there are 2 screws in the mini pci compartment that hold in the keyboard.

Let me know how you get along with it when you have re connected the keyboard.

Very strange, since the wireless cables shouldn't have anything to do with the keyboard, they are either connected to the display or somewhere inside the case of the machine.

It sounds a bit like there might be a short somewhere, since it keeps happening with the wireless card, try removing the card and make sure the antenna wires are not touching anything.

  • Ekse Oct 16, 2010

Its starting to sound more like there could be a short somewhere. Dissassemble the laptop and make sure everything is OK. If you where not grounded during the replacment of the screen you might have gotten very unlucky and caused some damage to the mainboard with static electricity.

It does happen, I've ruined a laptop machine myself by not keeping myself grounded with a wire when I was working inside of it.

keyboard can not be disabled with a FN key. touchpad can be. and still if the power is turned off and on, the touchpad should work the next time the machine boots up?

The problem is now either the keyboad or its cable, or the mainboard is faulty.

I had an acer aspire laptop with a faulty mainboard, replaced the keyboard and it still didn't work.

The mainboard is most likely faulty. Or try another keyboard. These are very fragile machines, if the other keyboard doesn't work you've got a faulty system board in your hands, Did it work before!? if it did, then you got very unlucky. You could dissasemble the whole machine, and then put it back together to make sure that there is not something loose inside, or something touching on something its not meant to touch.

Thats it then. The mainboard is too complex for us to repair and frankly your not paying us enought to get into that. You need to take the board to a laptop specialist who is willing to attempt to repair the board instead of selling you another motherboard.

If you are using an external usb mouse, then there must be a loose wire connection. Try to replace our mouse and see if it's working properly now. Have a nice day friend.

When I turn on the laptop sometimes the screen doesn't come up and when it does come up it says F10=ROM Based Setup. When I press F10 nothing happens.

Sounds like the hard disk is not able to boot the laptop.
ROM based setup means you need to reset or reconfigure the BIOS.
Assuming the BIOS battery is OK.
This could be because the hard disk itself died, you can remove the disk and attach it to a USB adapter (cheap to purchase) then connect it to another PC. If you can read the disk OK in another PC then you have a motherboard problem.

Compaq v2000 function key not working?

To check system board, connect external keyboard and see if all keys function normally. If the external works OK, check connections on laptop keyboard, making sure contacts are clean and fully seated in the ZIF socket If the external fails to function properly it is the system board.
