Hi Ian

I would first give the record play switching a "wake up call". Engage record and then back to play. The switching that changes between record and play is often the cause of problems like this. You may have to do it a few times, and at that, if you experience alot of crackling, a little contact cleaner lubricant spray into the recprdplay switch inside the unit to make it work alot better. If you can still hear some, but muffled audio from the "dead" channel, then it may be a dirty heads causing the audio to disappear. I may be stating the obvious here. See how you go with the rec/play switching tweak first.
I am more than happy to answer any other questions you may have about it, just give me a hoy :) If you are still unsure, or have problems, then before you give a rating for this advice, please get back to me and we can try some more things.
Thanks for using FixYa, If you consider the advice I have given you as sound, a FixYa rating is a great reward for my efforts to help you. Cheers.

This could be anything from bad heads to a bad pre-amp section. It is unlikely that this can be diagnosed remotely. You need to find a local repair shop that works on reel-to-reel units.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I would check your TV's firmware version against the newest one available from Sanyo. Usually you can go into your TV's menu and find the firmware information there.

Hi there,

If you still have the Sanyo remote, you just need to press the INPUT button on the remote. The channel search and some other functions are disabled when the TV is in video/AV/game mode.

If you don't have the Sanyo remote, but you have a Universal remote which you use with the TV, look for a button labelled INPUT or SOURCE on this remote and try pressing it.

If you don't have any remote for this TV or you are using a universal remote which does not have an INPUT or SOURCE button, please reply to me from within this page for further assistance and let me know the brand and model number of any universal remote you are using. There is no option in the menu for doing this, but there a couple of methods which work on some TVs

Hope this helps.

BElectric

Play back on Sanyo mr-929 reel-to-reel tape recorder is backwards

I also have an MR-929. The information that you need is in the 'Stereophonic 4 track stereo''. As stereo is only two tracks, there is another 2 tracks in addition to the one you are listening to. Wind the entire reel to the empty spool, and then play that. As you have to physically turn the reel over to do so, you should then hear the other tracks (or track, if recorded in mono).
I use my 929 to play my parents recording of my family from the late 60s, which were recorded on a valve (tube) Ferguson machine, which had a green "magic eye" level indicator, which as a child I found fascinating!

Reel motor

Try this place -

http://www.grandata.co.uk/

Part Number VM07

Or just search Sanyo Reel Motor

They do have a Sanyo Reel Motor for the BETA. I do not know exactly if this is for your model. However, I do believe it is.

They are in England, so they list European models. I myself am currently looking for a Sanyo 4400 Beta VCR (from the USA), and I believe the motor listed above will work for me. Try it yourself.
