Generic problem for all Computer Speakers

Creative Labs Inspire 5.1 5200 Speaker System

posted by patriot2135 on Jun 03, 2008

I have a set of Creative Labs Inspire 5.1 5200 surround sound speakers that I bought new about 5 years ago. They have worked flawlessly since I first bought them, however, I had a problem with the PC that they were originally attached to and had to repair the PC.
When I reconnected the speakers to the PC I experienced the following problem:
It seems that the left channel is bad. I cannot get sound from the left channel. All I am able to hear is static. I can hear the center speaker and the sub and a very faint sound coming from the right channel.
Do you know if there is a way to test the circuit board in the "sub speaker" unit to identify the problem?

PS. Just prior to the problem mentioned I noticed that the Headphone jack also stopped working.

Thank you in advance, for any help you can offer.
Sincerely,
Joe

TandN.
Thank you for the assistance. The speakers still aren't working.
I took your advise and opened up the Sub unit because this is the entire control center for the speakers.
Everything "looks" like it is brand new. There is no odor of burnt, scorched or shorted wiring, transistors, diode's or other electrical components.
There is also no apparent damage as one might expect if something shorted out.
I have looked for a bus fuse or something like this but have been unable to locate anything that stands out as an ordinary fuse, etc.
My knowledge however is very limited when it comes to Audio stuff.
If you know of a way to possibly test the circuit I could try to test it. I would just need someone to point me in the right direction.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Joe

You could test the speakers on another computer or another type of player.
As for testing the speaker itself you might want to open them up and look for rust.. Moisture could have gotten inside and ruined them.
That is the best that I can do.

You can splice the wires and check the see if the speaker wire is damaged. I would even go as far as replacing the wires if you have any wire or speaker wire. If the inside looks good and the speakers themselves look good it could be the wires. If you still can not find the problem let me know. My cousin has been working on car stereo speakers for about 15 years. I will contact him if you can not find a problem with the wires.
I am not allowed to give out any numbers on this web site. They figure that everything can be fixed by typing things back and forth. I have a website with some computer solutions that might help you. Since it is not a site that is competing with this site I am supposed to be allowed to send you there. I have not been told that I can not send you there by anyone that runs the site.
