Question about Keurig Special Edition B60 Coffee Maker

Open Question

My B140 Keurig flashed the "drain" light when turned on. I drained the machine, then when I tried to use it it said "add water" like normal. I filled the reservoir with water, but the "add water" light keeps blinking and it doesn't try pull water to heat. It makes no noise, the light just blinks.

There is a major design defect with all the newer Keurigs, including the B60 and the B70/B77. My understanding is that Keurig has redesigned the pump mechanism that extracts water from the reservoir and into the brewer (there's a second pump that forces the hot water through the K-cup, and it's not involved). They are now using a small DC motor and impeller pump, which is much quieter (to address complaints in many reviews) but the new design just doesn't work.

It appears that air gets into the system, and the new pump isn't strong enough to "self-prime" in this case. So the pump motor runs and runs without water going through it, and eventually turns itself off so it doesn't burn out (it should usually take only a few seconds to fill the internal tank). Many people think the problem centers around the 'check valve' in the base of the unit, just below where the clear reservoir seats itself: Theory is that the tiny pump can't pull hard enough to open the check valve to let water flow, especially when there's any air in the system.

I've had two B77 units already myself, and both have failed this way within only a few weeks. FWIW, the workaround I discovered is to turn the unit on, and lift up the water-filled reservoir about 1-2" as if you're removing it. Then jam it back down into place, hard and fast. Doing this injects just enough pressure into the system to open the check valve, and if the pump motor is running, you'll hear (and see) it immediately start transferring water from the reservoir to the chamber. You'll often have to do this between each cup you brew, and again when you first turn on the system.

There are hundreds of similar reports all over the Internet about this issue, and apparently no real solutions from Keurig yet (I don't even know if they're acknowledging the problem). Other symptoms include brewing half-filled cups of coffee, as others on this forum have reported.

I suggest everyone call Keurig's customer service and file complaints about this until they come up with a fix. Don't let them tell you it's a problem with your AC power or your hard water (they'll try excuses like tthose first). And until they redesign this, there's not much point in having them ship you a refurbished replacement for your brand-new machine, because chances are it will quickly fail just like your old one.

It means you need to fully drain the reservoir first - it's to prevent overflow. Can't believe these other answers SMH

either the inlet water valve is bad and needs to be replaced or the controller for it is not cutting off the electricty to it, If you are going to replace something, replace the water inlet solenoid valve.

there is a problem with the drain. It is not draining all the water.
1. The drain hose could be too high.
2. There is a plugged pipe
3. There is debris in the drain hose or the pump

My Keurig Brewer is flashing the add water, heating and small cup brew lights. The water reservoir is full and I have taken it off and placed it back on. If I press the small brew button it acts like it...


Perhaps more than one problem people are dealing with but here's what I found. The round float in the tank is magnetic so it's either activating some crappy mechanical switch or more likely a hall effect sensor. Remove the tank and dump the water so the float will rise from the bottom when you refill it. Take a good strong magnet and slide it around the side of the unit where the float would be, tapping it as you go. Put the tank back on and fill it. One try and I was back to making coffee.

My keurig coffee maker is flashing the words DE SCALE. What does that mean and how do I fix it?


"Scale" is deposits of minerals, etc. normally found in water. Boiling a container of water (in a pot, or coffee maker in this case), leaves small amounts or "deposits" of these minerals on and near the actual heat source. If not removed, they can slow brewing time and more importantly, adversely affect the taste of coffee.

Descaling should be done at regular intervals to prevent this from happening. Your machine lets you know when to perform the descaling task. There are a number of products sold in your supermarket that will do this for you - but one of the least expensive; and just as effective - is to use white vinegar. Here's how to do it:

1) Drain your Keurig coffee machine over a sink.
2) Fill the machine with undiluted white vinegar.
3) Run the brew process at least four times, pouring the cups of vinegar back into the coffee maker.
4) Optionally, let your Keurig coffee maker sit for a few hours, then run the brew cycles again. Pour the vinegar into the sink and drain any remaining vinegar.
5) Fill your coffee maker with fresh water. Run multiple brew cycles with fresh water each time to thoroughly rinse the machine before returning to normal use.

When I turn on the ac, it beeps many times the red light says on


why did it fill up? because the drain is plugged there should be a safety switch that is keeping the comp off. find and clean the drain system.

Machine fills and drains at the same time.


Check the height of the drain hose and make sure the drain hose is higher than 30 inches from the ground. If your drain hose drains into the floor you may need to purchase a siphon break to stop the problem

The drain/spin cycle always adds water


It's normal if it just adds a little bit of water. It does this so your drain pump impeller doesn't run dry which could damage it. If it's filling right up, there could be a malfunction with the control board, the pressure switch or the inlet valve .

You could try shutting off the water supply at the taps before you start the drain/spin cycle.
