My TomTom XL Live almost always does an unsolicited 'reset' whenever I switch it on. This seems to be to do with searching for traffic data as the right hand route traffic banner shows a searching symbol. It seems to return to my home location, and takes a while to find the satellites, before returning to normal operation. I have had it do this 2 or 3 times in a row before working properly. This problem has been there a long time now, and stangely never occurred in 2 weeks of use in the US (no traffic data, of course).
Any ideas please?

The tomtom traffic system uses either a 'O2 (White SIM) or Vodaphone (RED SIM). Service fluctuates between good and bad.
Contact tomtom support and ask for a replacement SIM card

If there's data (items) on your TomTom that you can remove/delete, like music, photo's, images, (useless/not needed) maps, favorites, etc. it will give you more "disk" space to work with.
You can back up the data (using the TomTom HOME application) before you remove the items from your device.
I downloaded some updated material and now my tomtomxl turns on the intro light only and doesnt go any further then shuts down and then I push the reset button on the button on the bottom and it does it all overagain
Make sure you have "never turn off screen" checked, To do this tap "change prferences" tap the forward arrow until you see "battery saving preferences". Tap "battery saving preferences" then tap "never turn screen off". Tap "done" and make sure that "switch off when external power is lost" is not checked. Tap "done". If you do not see this option go back into "change preferences" tap the forward arrow until you see "show menu options" it should read "show fewer munu options"
You have to have tethering then it will work, I have a 8300 and until I got tethering it wouldn't work, you still have to purchase the traffic plan for around $59 a year.
I got this similar password problem with Tomtom One XL. I just solve this problem step by step under the following ways.
1. Connect One XL to TomTom Home in your computer using USB cable and switch on ONE XL. (Click YES to connect each other) 2a. Click "Manage my ONE XL" 2b. Click "Items on device" tag. 3. Now you can see all of the data in your device and click "Applications". 4. Click inside the check box and click "Copy items to computer". (This step is back up for just incase) 5. After Backing up your applications, then Click "Applications" check box and click "Remove from device". 6. After removing applications, unplug from computer and switch off ONE XL. 7. Connect ONE XL and computer again and switch on your ONE XL. 8. TOMTOM Home will search your applications in your device. Finally it will automatically download and installed the new applications. (There will be 4 times installation and the device will restart itself. At this step, you need to touch "Yes" on your device to connect the device and computer.) 9. After installation completed, your device looks like newly come out from the factory. 10. Set up Language, Time, and so on and ready to use.
Turn on your device by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.
TomTom HOME starts.
In TomTom HOME, click Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc. and then click Items on my computer.
Then expand Applications by clicking the plus symbol and click Add.
bought last Dec/Jan, and regularly connected to TomTom home for updates.
yes
An obvious suggestion, which is easier to say that do. No real help at all.
