Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a Whirlpool GS6SHEXML00 side by side refrigerator. The Ice dispenser does not come on. The flap opens, but the motor does not turn on. I've read the following, but how do I 'take the cover off the freezer hinge'? Jim Nail The dispenser board is the most likely problem but it can be hard to check, so you need to eliminate everything else first. If the flap opens when you push the button to get ice but none of the other mechanical parts move it can be a loose connection at the door hinge or in the auger motor housing. First, take the cover off the freezer hinge and make sure the wires are plugged in good. Now check to see if your problem is fixed. If not take the auger housing (the housing that holds the auger motor in place behind the ice bin) and check to see if the all the plugs are in good. If all the connections are good, replace the dispenser board.

SOURCE: Ice Dispenser kitchenaid KSRP25FNSS

first make sure that there is not ice clogging the auger. check that connection to the auger motor is secure. If it appears to be fine you will need a volt meter for the following steps. If you are not comfortable using this equipment or do not want to buy one call a repairman. If you choose to continue remove the leads from the auger motor. Configure the meter to read ohms and place the leads across the motor connections. The meter should read some resistance if not the motor is either shorted or a lead has burned completely due to a short. If the motor is fine configure the meter to read volts. Look on the motor and determine if it is AC or DC and configure the meter for this. Connect the voltmeter leads to the motor feed wires and press the ice despense button. If no voltage is observed check the switch for continuity. Replace any faulty parts. If this sounds foreign to you call a repairman.

Water overfilling the freeze tray on Whirlpool conquest ice maker

The overfilling is most likely caused by defective water control valve on the ice maker side. The replacement for your model is a=> W10408179 Water Inlet Valve

The water fill adjustment can be found in the Ice Maker Troubleshooting Service Manual These settings can cause too little or too much by turning the set screw so use caution. I will be here should you have questions or comments, Thanks Sea Breeze

Our Kenmore side by side refrigerator ice maker makes ice but when we press the ice dispenser lever there is no sound and no ice comes out.

If your refrigerator has an ice dispenser, you are probably used to getting ice right away when a lever or button is pressed. However, if you depress the ice maker button and nothing dispenses, there is an issue with your refrigerator. There are a few different reasons why an ice dispenser would suddenly not work. It is important to troubleshoot your refrigerator first to determine the problem. Some problems can be fixed at home, while others must be repaired by a professional

1 Remove the ice bin from the freezer and press the button on the front of the refrigerator for cubed ice.
2 Open the freezer door and hold down the switch on the door, which "tricks" the freezer into thinking the door is closed, and push the lever or button to dispense ice. The motor behind the ice bin should turn. If it does not, this means the motor is frozen.

3 Remove the motor, following the directions in your refrigerator's manual. Heat and dry out the motor with a hairdryer until the motor turns again, then reinstall the motor according to the manufacturer's directions.

Ice Bin or Chute
1 Remove the ice bin to see if it is overloaded. Ice bins that are too full can cause new ice being produced to back up and cause blockage. If this is the case, dump out the ice and rinse out the ice bin with hot water until any blockage is melted.

2 Examine the separator that divides the ice storage bin from the ice dispenser for holes. If the separator has a hole or is cracked, it must be replaced.

3 Watch the flap on the ice dispenser as you hold down the door switch and simultaneously press the button to dispense ice. If the flap does not close all the way, check for ice blockage and gently remove it. If there is no blockage, the flap will need to be replaced.

Hope this tips would help.

Have a nice day!

Sounds like marbles or ice dropping in refrigerator (not freezer side). Looking into vent in back upper left corner, noise seems to coincide with a flap going up and down. The flap movement is being...

The flap is what open and closes to allow more or less cold air in from the freezer. There could be ice buildup inside the freezer causing this or a mechanical noise of the flap and motor running. See if you can see it from the freezer side of the vent.

Whirlpool side by side with ice maker dispenser not working

Hello, we are sorry to hear that you are experiencing this problem. We would suggest checking the ice chute to make sure that there is no ice lodged in the way of the flap. If the issue persist we would suggest having a certified technician out to look at the Refrigerator. If you would like further assistance you can send your name, phone number, address, model/serial of the appliance and the date on which you purchased the Refrigerator to Whirlpool_Reviews@Whirlpool.com. Whirlpool Gold Side By Side Ice Dispenser Problems

Instead of what you think the sound is, try and see what is happening when you actuate the ice lever. open freezer door, depress the door light switch, or tape it closed. now actuate the ice dispenser lever, does the flapping door open, that which opens to allow ice from bucket into your glass? Now look at the bucket itself, do you see the gears rotating? remove the bucket from the door, and repeat, do you see the auger shaft rotating?

Either of these are a complex repair, one I would not recommend DIYers to try on their own, for they require taking the door apart, and if not done right, your door may not close properly. Normally I have no problem advising a repair, but there are some i dont, this icemaker system, and compressors.

I would remove the ice bucket in the freezer and make sure that nothing has gotten between the motor and the auger that pushes the ice forward.

Intermittent flapping noise whirlpool fridge freezer

Hi: Go easy on my rating as this is just something to try. You say it dosn't have a dispenser. Does it have an Ice maker? If so is it hooked up? If not try raising the lever on the ice maker up to the off position. The water valve may ve trying to open and without water pressure it will make a noise. It would also be related to the switches on the door. I hope this helps, Jeff

Ice machine makes ice but doesn't dispense when the lever is pres

I would check for an electric "flap" that opens & closes when ice lever is depressed. My GE has one and it has been fouled before causing the ice to be stuck inside the door. Hope this helps!

Ice maker chute icing up

The flap is probably not closing properly. Dispense some ice, then open the freezer door and look to see if the flap is still slightly open. If so, you will have to take the front cover off of the control panel and clean the muck off of the flap mechanism and also clean the solenoid. I have to do this about 2X year. Not a big job, but be careful.
