Hi,

This is a common problem. The oven to heat the igniters must heat up enough to open the oven safety valve. This happens by the igniters drawing enough amperage thru the safety valve. Just because it glows it may not be strong enough. or if you see no glow it may have a broke coil in that igniters and wont glow at all. You will need a volt meter to check if no glow. If soft glow, replace igniters. The igniters costs 5$. You can consult your manual to replace it yourself.

GE wall oven gas model # JGRS14 won't heat past 100 and I don't see any flames

if you can see the ignitor glowing on either the broiler or the lower area of the oven then the gas valve is bad and not opening anymore,sometimes the ignitors are the culprit as they are in series with the gas valve and if weak wont let the valve open,but both upper and lower burners not operating i would suspect a gas valve first

Tip

Replacing igniter

GE wall ovens have panels for regulator and ignitor wiring at the lower back of oven. remove all screws and plates to expose wiring. clip off defective igniter and use ceramic wire nuts to fasten new one. re-assemble.

I learned from local gas company that igniter is most frequent part to replace.

cost = $35

GE technical support = non-existent.

power of the internet - priceless!

Oven wont light

Check the amp draw on the ignitor. If 2.9 amps or less, replace the ignitor. If 2.9 amps or more, replace the gas safety valve.

Don't know how to light GE Glow-Bar oven

Perhaps the oven ignitor (glow bar) is defective. To test, check the voltage going to the ignitor when you turn on the oven to bake. If you have 110 volts testing with a voltage meter, replace the ignitor. If you do not have voltage, trougleshoot backwards to see where you have voltage in but not out.

If I can help further, I am here.

Electric starter gas oven model jgrp17 won't heat

more than likely your glow bar ignitor has stopped working or at least pulling enough amps to open the safety valve. The floor of the ovens come out may have a couple screws toward the back. take the floor out if a diffuser is on top of the burner remove it. the glow bar ignitor is mounted on the burner turn the oven on and watch it should glow bright red and in about 30 secs open the gas safety valve. If it does not glow you may want to verify power to the ignitor, more than likely the ignitor is the problem. If it glows but does not open the safety valev still replace the ignitor not pulling the required amps to open the safety valve. just put a little dish soap on the screws to the ignitor to help from srtripping them out
