The power supply is probably what blew. There is nothing you can do yourself other than sending it for repair.

Considering that this is a low end player, It may not be worth to pay the cost of servicing it.

Player shuts off

the player is failing, due to contaminate on the optical pickup (if its used in a smoking home, dusty enviornment, or one with a fireplace) a cleaning disc may help. but most likely the optical block is failing, and the lowesst cost option is to replace it, as repair will cost you in excess of $150.00

I have a tv with inbuilt dvd and freeview, the dvd player will not work, i have tried using a lens cleaner disc but dvd player just says theres no disc inserted

the laser can be contaminated with smoke (if anyone smokes around the unit or if its located in a kitchen or such) .. the lens cleaner disc will only remove loose dust and hair from the laser .. indeed that often fixes the problem but smoke requires dissassembly of the unit and hand cleaning of the laser (i usually use eye glass cleaning solution on a soft lint free paper or cloth (dont spray directly on the laser).. the laser could simply be at end of life as well .. in that case you might be able to replace the DVD drive (hopefully its standard ) .. replacing the laser usually costs more than a new drive ..

During a road trip, our kids had watched 4 straight DVD movies ranging from 1 hour - 1 1/2 hours in length. Our DVD was hooked up to the car to save the battery life. Out of the blue, our player started...

Did you use the correct adapter for use in the car? It sounds to me like it may have been getting too much voltage/current.

If you had it over a year, I doubt the warranty will cover it unfortunately.

Best Regards,

You might have cooked it.  Do you know the power ratings on the car lighter adapter you used and do they match what's on the bottom of the DVD player?

Purchased 9 inch durabrand portable DVD player for my child. and we was using it and the DVD player started smoking out the side. now it will not work. its not even a year old. what are we going to do

Check on the warranty period. Many of these products have 1 year warranties. If so, bring it in for warranty service. Smoke is definately not a good sign. There are problems that can show up this way that are not serious, but in general, smoke usually means that the unit is junk. Try the warranty route first. If there is no warranty, just replace it as the repair cost could easily exceed the initial cost.

Smoking DVD player

Throw it away an buy a new one. WalMart's dvd's and all their electronics stuff are produced in china without any quality control and from the cheapest components. They aren't even worth repair.
Buy a branded DVD (SAMSUNG, Sony) to avoid future problems.

Flaming DVD Player...

Loud pop and smoke is what happens when capacitor blow off. These things happen. It doesn't mean product is dangerously defective. Faulty capacitor, or circuit board, or a power surge can cause this. If it's two months old, it's probably under manufacturer warranty, and you'd be able to get it fixed without any extra cost. Good luck.
