You need to check the four transistors (c5706/5707) for shorts (it shoould more than 1000 Ohm in circuit or open out off the circuit between Emitter and Collector).
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Will not switch on, no green light totally dead?

Hello,

These units are known for having issues with the internal power supply board. There are parts called capacitors that fail due to heat buildup in the monitor case. When they die the power supply stops working and you get a dead monitor just like you have. If you can solder then you should be able to repair your unit. We have a free step by step repair guide posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/dell-e172fpc-e173fpc-repair/ The repair should take less than 20 minutes to do and cost less than $15 for parts.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Dell flat screen monitor E173FPc I put the power on and it comes on but the display turns off after 2 secs while the power light is still on

godiac, What does the flashlight trick tell you? I suspect that the "switch-mode-power-supply" has detected a fault with itself or the CCFL "inverter supply" and is now in partial of full shutdown trying to save itself from a catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure. e.g. sparks, smoke, fire. Learn flashlight trick for gross status check of unit's SMPS! It might be possible to repair(refurbish) unit for $8 on a DIY quest! If no warranty available or no possible DELL cash+old for refurbed unit then look into doing DIY fix. Del e173fpc 17" power light comes on but screen black.

Hello,

The issue you have is caused by a bad power supply. If you change the following capacitors on the power board you should be back running again. C925 and C924 are 470uf 16v and C922 and C923 are 1000uf 16v be sure to use high temp capacitors not just standard that you would find at Radio Shack, if you do they will blow again with in a month or two. We have a parts kit available and I will have picture posted on our web site at :

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Dell Blinking Power Light

Hi There,
I have worked on several of the Dell 17" and that is almost always the Capacitor problem.

The caps have died inside, and they can be replaced. If you have basic electronics skills, you can go in, order replacement caps, and unsolder and resolder. If you can't do it yourself, you can take it into a shop.

If you can get inside the frame of the monitor, and disassemble, you can find the caps by seeing a bulge on top, or even a rusty looking material on the top. Be VERY careful around the high voltage section if you do go inside.

Here is a link to the Cap plague that explains what happens in detail. But I repair these all the time with that symptom.

Dell e173fpc

That is a slightly different power supply board if it is the one I am thinking of.l It is similar in style but there is a 1000mf 16v capacitor that once you replace it it will work.
