Why does the boiler only ignite when the combustion chamber is removed? The fault started with two slow flashing lights... I reset, no ignition, ignition cut out. I removed the chamber, cleaned up etc and the boiler ignited on demand. I replaced the chamber and it does not ignite on demand... Nothing specific about thus in my manual. Please help?

You have a dirty pilot assembly and maybe even a bad ECO switch (safety switch). I would suggest replacing the ECO and removing the pilot assembly and clean it out.

if the flame does not start at all, so just ticking from the ignitor you have a main valve problem and this is expensive replacement part and it must be done by a trained gas fitter.

How can I clean inside a rinnai convector 417 gas heater

http://rinnai.co.nz/tradesmart/upload/files/productfile/portable_convector_rce417_operation_and_installation.pdf

Beside cleaning the filters with a vacuum, There are no instructions on how to clean the inside of the heater. The back and front panels would need to be removed. Unless you are confident to remove the panels, just blow it out as you ahve done and make sure the filters are clean.

Our Rinnai convector unflued room heater won't start. Lights just flash heat never comes on.

According the the Owner's Manual for your Rinnai Convector Heater, there are 8 things, than can cause what you described. Two of which can be discounted, unless you just had the heater installed.

I have provided a link to the Owner's Manual, that you can download and print for future reference. Please pay close attention to Page # 6 -Pre-Service Check List and Fault Finding. Each problem listed has a troubleshooting solution.

I am having problems with turning my gas heater ( Rinnai Convector 404) on and also a high pitched ringing sound, we were given the heater a cpl weeks ago and managed to use it no probs for a few nights...

This noise you hear may be a result of a gas pressure problem to the heater. Generally, it's caused by low pressure. Low, meaning below the the standard required by the manufacturer for this heater. The gas regulator on the heater may be stuck in a partially open position or the line that furnishing the gas to the heater is to small in diameter. Also, check the gas line shut off vale, to make sure it's fully open.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Hi This is happening to us and I called Rinnai... they suggested that if anyone either in our apartment or an ajoining one has painted walls or varnished a floor that the convection heater picks up the smell and the only way to get rid of it is to burn it off by running the heater for several hours in a well ventalated room...

I am going to try it tomorrow.

will let you know

Hi - I have a Rinnai Convector 406 gas heater which is 2 years old. Yesterday, it started cutting out with an error code of "12" showing in the display. It can be re-started but only stays on for a few...

I believe the 12 is the error code for "incomplete combustion". In this case you will want to start with the thermocouple. If you are not handy at these things I would call a service tech. You can find a service person on their website.

Rinnai Convector 404

Hi pinkinfinite,

The 404 is a great heater. I am assuming it is a Natural Gas Heater. All it needs is a good blow out with compressed air. They tend to carbon up in the pilot light area. You will probably also find it is very dusty inside. Easiest way to clean the carbon out is to remove the hose at the heater and with compressed air blow through the fitting where you have removed the hose. Make sure you hold down the start button so the air can get through to the pilot light and jets. Don't connect the electricity for the fan when you do this.
To clean it out internally you only need to remove the front panelling. There are two screws holding the top panel (not to be confused with the side and top). The screws are located inside the bottom grill at the front. There are also screws for the bottom grill there which you will also need to remove and probably best to remove the bottom panel that house the front feet. It should expose all the inside workings of the heater except for the pilot light and jets etc. You should be able to see the fan - it is round and looks like a filter and sits behind the vent section. Make sure you give it a good blow out - it gets all dirt and dust around it. When you do it remove both the rear filters/covers. They are mesh. Blow the top one which is the larger metal one and make sure you blow inside where it fits over to remove the dust and dirt. Same with the other one which should be plastic with mesh. Once you do this put it all back together. Make sure all wires are connected and be wary with the compressed air as it may blow the connectors off from loose fitting parts. Once you get it all back together Test it and hopefully it should work. Hope this helps. I did one the same today that was having trouble starting and it now works like a new one.

Regards
Bryan
