Sony VAIO VGC-V517G PC Desktop Problem

ONE DAY ALL OF THE POWER WENT OUT IN MY HOUSE, THEN IT CAME BACK ON LIKE 2 MINUTES LATER, AND WHEN I TRY TO TURN MY COMPUTER ON IT GOES RIGHT TO A BLUE SCREEN THAT SAYS

"A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

I NEED HELP TO TRY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. I TRIED TO RESTART MY COMPUTER AND UN PLUG IT BUT THAT DIDN'T WORK.

Sound like master boot record got screwed

get a XP home or pro edition cd. boot from CD. (not sure if your computer will boot from cd rom check bios to make sure option is active to boot from CD rom)

hit any key to start from cd

wait for screen to come up

Look for the repair or (r) option to come up

goto R for repair

repair area should come up

then type in FIXMBR hit enter, hit Y to confirm
then type in FIXBOOT hit enter hit Y to confirm
reboot

should work. if not you might to reinstall the OS again

SOURCE: I have a Sony Vaio VGC-V517G but the CD/DVD

A Driver is a small piece of software, that allows the Operating System to 'communicate' with a device.

Windows XP is an example of an Operating System. (O/S)
A typical device?
An Optical drive, (CD/DVD), Mouse, Keyboard, and Graphics card, are a few examples.

This is Sony eSupport, and the Drivers download page, for the Sony Vaio VGC-V517G Notebook PC,

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGC-V517G&region_id=1

Go down to the third file listing -
CD/DVD Drives - 2file(s)

Left-click on the + sign before,
CD/DVD Drives -2file(s)

If your optical drive is the Sony DW-D56A, download the second file listed,
(Sony DW-D56A DVD -+RW Optical Drive Firmware Update Utility)

I also suggest you download the first file listed also.

Download both files. Open one at a time. Open one file, then install the file. Then open the other file, install it.

Go to the right, and left-click on the icon that looks like a blue World, with a green down arrow under it.

On the next page go to the right, and left-click on that same icon again. (Under the - Download Now - heading)

Should you need additional info, or help with the above, come back, and state so in a comment.

Or ,have I understood your problem wrongly? If so state it in a comment. Allow me the chance to give you the right information, before you rate the solution.

Installed gforce fx 5700 drivers in vgc-v517g and

Hi,
The problem could be caused due to high refresh rate or resolution settings on the video card that are not compatible with the monitor.

Restart the computer and keep tapping on the F8 screen before the windows starts to load. Highlight the option enable VGA mode and hit enter. Your windows would start with defualt settings for the video card. Check if the problem is still there. Otherwise lower the screen resolution and refresh rate according to the monitor you have.

Sony Vaio VGC-RB576 motherboard fried

if you have problems with outages and surges, then the only way to protect electrical goods is by purchasing a surge protection socket extension. But you should check that your power options in control panel are set that on the shutdown drop down list the pc lists shut down and does not say restart. Also go into bios F2 or Del on boot up and look and see if time and date are correct, if not then the cmos battery needs changing (Cr2032 disc chaped on motheroard) then in advanced cmos settings, then look for 'ACPI', make sure this is enabled so as to support windows shutdown settings, then save settings and exit for a reboot.
