This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly or a defective clutch in the take-up spool and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. Tape is playing back in fast forward only

Hello,

It is possible the tape loaded on the wrong side of the drive. If you romove the tape, look for slack and tighten up, try it again or another tape. Otherwise it is likely that a spring for the pressure roller is off or broken. This is not easially repairable.

When a tape is stopped and ejection is engaged the slack in the tape jams in the rollers. I've tried a vcr cleaning tape and a spray of electronic aerosol. Nothing works. The machine is brand new....

The take-up reel should remove the slack from the tape. Try looking around that area for anything wrong. If it wasn't a new machine I would suggest a lot of things, but the only thing I can think of is either something got damaged in transit or a foreign object is in somewhere.

How does the vcr release the tape to be ejected?

When in play the tape is pulled out of the cassette & wrapped around a path that takes it across the heads using guide arms. When you press STOP/EJECT. the guide arms move back leaving the tape slack, at the same time a clutch device engages the take up spool & rotates to turn the spool in the cassette & wind the slack tape back into the cassette. When the arms are fully retracted a selector switch has moved into position to activate a motor which turns the mechanism to bring the cassette housing back up to the start position & relaeses the tape. If there is still tape catching the mechanism when you try to eject or some of the tape not fully back inside the cassette, this is most likely because the take up spool is not turning quickly enough to take up the slack tape.

Hi, This is a common problem with some VHS units. The problem is that the tape does not fully extend over the video head and the slack sensor shuts the unit off. This involves the motor and driving mechanism that actuates the spreader arms that moves the tape. Usually this is caused by slippage of a small rubber belt. Though the repair work involve is relatively easy, removing the mechanism and replacing the belt would require that you be familiar with component placement and certain timing sequence of tape loading. Your best bet probably would be to seek the services of a qualified professional. Hope this be of some help/idea. post back how things are or should you need additional information. good luck and kind regards.

Tape Ejects Immediately

There are normally 2 causes. One is some obstruction in the tape path. Please open the cover of the VCR and shake and see for foriegn objects. Nothing??? Then there is one more possibility - Belts are loose.. Check the Tape Loading motor belt.Is it slack? This can happen over time.Change the belt.
