Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Brand new Dell Vostro 430, in troublefree use for two weeks, sudden does not start up any more. After turning the Vostro on: - it shows the startup screen with the Dell-logo in the center, the intel logo at the right bottom, and the text "Vostro 430" above, and "BIOS 2.2.0" below the progress bar and the options F2 and F12 at the top right. - the progress bar fills up to a quarter, - the progress bar fills up to a third, - the progress bar fills up to half the bar, - then the screen goes black and show a blinking cursor on the top left cursor In this state the Vostro remains. Nothing more happens. No sounds form the Vostro other then the fan. The Vostro responds to almost nothing. It only responds to pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del. This makes it say "Entering powersave mode" and 5 seconds later it starts up again, ending up at the same black screen with cursor over again.

I have also tried to turn it of, unhook the power cable, wait for the green led at the back of the Vostro to go out, wait for 15 seconds or so, hook up the power cable again and pressing the power-on button again. This has made no difference.

Do you have the Operation Disc XP, Vista, Windows 7 witch ever one is installed on it?

  • tim9527 Oct 16, 2010

Yep. The OS is Windows 7. The disc is titled "Operating system" and subtitled "Reinstallation DVD Windows 7 Professional 32-bit". It also says: "Already installed on your system". What to do?

I bought two almost identical Vostro's, so I have two of these disks. Can't tell the disks apart. Is that a problem. Probably not.

  • tim9527 Oct 16, 2010

Hm. I put in this Operation Disk and pressed Ctrl-Alt-Del, waited for the startupscreen with Dell-logo, pressed F12, selected CD/DVD as boot system and pressed enter. Same black screen with cursor appeared.

I also have a disk called "Dell Resource Media" on which it says "You must boot your pc from this media to run diagnostics". Sounds helpfull. I will do that now.

  • tim9527 Oct 16, 2010

Selecting the boot device CD-DVD also does not make a difference when the diagnostics cd is in there. After selecting the boot-device and pressing enter, directly the same black screen with the blinking cursor appears. The boot options are "HDD:P0", "HDD:P1"", "CD-DVD", "USB: Dell ..", "USB: WDC...", "Pre-boot system assessment" and "Boot utility Partition". I have also tried all the others, one after the other. The result is the same for every choice: directly the black screen with the blinking cursor.

n the f2-setup I tried several options without improvement:
    - at "CPU-configuraion" I disabled every option, so the CPU is used in the most simple operational status; no solution
    - Disabled "Quick boot", so it will not skipp any test; no solution
    - at "Integrated LAN controllers" I disabled everything; Hurray!!! I see my windows screen again. Can't use my keyboard anymore. Okay, reboot and F2 and switch on the USB-controllers. Solved.

Strange: I can reboot and enable all LAN-controllers again and the Vostro keeps running fine. So no clear cause is to be found.

Press DEL on startup and select "last best known config that worked" If that doesn't work you have probably corrupted the Win registry. Will need to take back to store, beware that if its a software fault you will have to pay and may lose all your data n the HDD!!!

Testimonial: "Luckily I had no corrupt windows registry and all my data is safe. Another solution (switching of several LAN-controllers) did the trick."

If you are a non-technical user then don't edit registry keys manually the best solution is to use the best registry cleaner that will also fix other registry errors. Use Intel Software Partner Reginout.

Dell Vostro 3500 suddenly shut down, start up and works fine, after 2 minutes turn off without any warning message this happened after i installed bios upgrade A10 from dell.com

this is happening because of bios upgrade but not in a bad way. May be there is a hardware problem just starting so new bios upgrade is detecting that and thats why its restarting.

basically sudden shut down occurs in either cases- Fan not working or hard disk(or RAM) gone bad.

my advise is to contact dell customer support and they will guide you thru trouble shooting steps.
they will guide you if your warranty is not there.

Dell Vostro 430 - cannot play out sound from pc

Should have an audio card indeed. But if there are audio connections on the back it will definitely have an audio card installed.
Did you check the Device Manager to see if the audio drivers are installed?

In case you need to find drivers and can't find them on the Dell site, try driver finder, great program. Will also find the audio drivers on other sites if Dell does not have them.
