Question about Hotpoint FFA70 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Our Kelvinator FN200F freezer is 10 years old and has never missed a beat until now. It will not cool below minus 1C and most of the stored foods will not freeze properly. Have turned cooler knob in stages up to maximum with no change in temp. Is it worth spending $80 call out plus labour / repairs to correct.

No, it will cost you more than that to come to the door and parts and labor on top of that. It sounds like you have a defrosting problem which will freeze up the evaporator in the freezer compartment and not get the proper air flow or the fan motor is not turning which will cause the same problem.

Our Kenmore 253.28432801 is just over 5 years old. It stopped freezing, and the Sears tech says it has a leak and needs coils and a condenser. This would be $618, he suggested we buy a new freezer. Co

If it's holding at 28 degrees, it's not the coils. See if dropping the temp does any thing to lower the temp. If it does, fine. If not, most likely just the control needs replaced or just cleaned.

Kelvinator fridge freezer, fridge too cold frosting at back

Fridges that are less then 10 years old have a lot of POWER. To get rid of the frost, wait until you have eaten most of the food up (maybe a few days), then unplug the fridge and leave the doors open. This will take care of the frost after several hours.

From then on, make sure that when your fridge is full, use a higher setting, and when it is near empty or half way full, use a lower setting. Keeping the freezer at a mid to low setting all the time should be fine, because its usually the fridge part that gives people trouble. You will have to judge on your own which setting is best (i.e you can tell when its good based on how cold the juice is in there, etc).

By adjusting the setting based on the amount of food in your fridge, it should prevent frosting.

Hope that helps!

Refridgerator and Freezer Not Cooling (2 year old fridge)

Some of these had problems with the door light switches between the doors. They also control the fans. The top and bottom both have fans in back. Try opening top door and holding door light switch in. Wait for a couple minutes to see if fan comes on. Try with freezer too. If not coming on may need switch.

Kelvinator N480s Freezer working, fridge not cooling

this can be caused by a few things. The fan in the freezer not running thus not blowing the cold air to the refrigerator(the cooling always comes from the freezer with a blower fan moving the air to the refrigerator.) it can also be a bad defrost timer not turning on the automatic defrost thus you get a big block of ice in the freezer and no cold air can get by this to the refrigerator. you can check to see if this or the defrost heater is bad by turning off the complete unit overnight.(make sure to put all your food in coolers or some other way to keep it fresh.) the next morning turn the unit on and if after a few hours your fridge is cooling nicely, either the timer or heater or bad. these can be tricky to locate and replace without experience or someone hands on showing you how to find them. Also on newer refrigerators(probably the last 6-10 years) all the components are printed circuit boards. and I have no experience with these.

Refrigerator/freezer is warm, fan is running.

The problem is the compressor isnt starting. The relay is probably ok. It should have 5yr warranty on the compressor. However if you purchase a Supco RC0810 start assist relay available at all appliance parts stores, it will start the compressor, however this is only a temp fix. But it should last till sears can put a new compressor in.
