I have 2 of the power boards now i am struggling with, but there's a small capacitor that has gone on both of mine, it's labelled c5017 and is 10pF according to the service manual and i cannot remember the voltage but i'm using 630V ones to be safe but i think the orginal is much lower, so best to test that cap to see if it's causing the problem

my power supply also just blew. That cap is screwed as you said but also an SMD diode under the board D5004 whiuhc has laid its guts out. Any idea what the diode is?

Also who has a manual for this set

  • Steven Cragg Dec 11, 2010

What's the TV and board model? I'll check the service manual. also tell me a few other parts that the diode is near to make it easier to find. i may also be able to get the manual for u

  • Graham Dec 17, 2010

Awa actually sent me the manula via email. But there are still issues. I think there may have been 2 versions of this poower supply board. It seems strangly different.

The part numbers screened on the power supply PCB are D5004 and the cap is C5017 They both connect more or less to an Power IC N5004 which is on a big heatsink.

This is according to the PCB. BUT the manula I have shows all the parts with 3 digit numbers and none of them appear to be in the right places.

The PCB number is PHSB31-20 printed on a white label on the edge of the board.

What are the ones you have? A new PCB is $450 from AWA so I really dont want to buy a new one. This is probably an easy fix if I can figure out WTF is going on.

    TV is a PXT-50XD1

  • Graham Dec 17, 2010

yep there is no way this diagram is my PCB despite the numbers being correct. . In your manual are the part numbers referred to as D5004 and C5017 ? Or are they 3 digit numbers like D504 and C517 like my manual. The 7 pin STR chip near the blown parts on mine is STR-X6769 whereas in the circuit diagram AWA sent over it is called an STR-X6700.

IF you can email over your manual to me grahamrjohnson@yahoo.com I will check it off against mine. I can email you the one I have if it will help you.

  • Steven Cragg Dec 17, 2010

yep, you have the right diagram. they seem to have added a 0. my boards have 3 digit numbers and the diagram 4

  • Graham Dec 19, 2010

so your PCB has 3 digit numbers? and your circuit diagram has 4 ??

My PCB had 4 digit numbers and the service manual 3? so the reverse ???

Whats the Part number printed on the power IC beside the blown cap on your PCB? STR-X6769 or STR-X6700?

  • Graham Dec 19, 2010

I think I have the cct DIAGRAM for your PCB and you have the cct diagram for mine. Wanna swap?

I never got to the bottom of the NEC power supply fault. Couldnt be bothered when a new set is arounf $500.

NEC shoyuld hang their heads in shame. This is a design fault that should have been fixed under warrantee regardless of the time it has taken to accur.

I estimate ALL these sets will have failed within 5 years. I have been watching closely for faulty sets springing up on EBAY. ALL have the same fault. $450 for a new power supply is stupid and an insult. I will actively avoid NEC products in the future. due to this issue. $2500 down the drain in 3 years.

There is an 8amp 250v 5mm x 20mm ceramic slow blow fuse on the power supply board inside the TV. The picture below shows the board with the fuse circled in yellow. If you had a big enough power surge it may have damaged other parts of the power supply beyond the fuse. Look for burn marks on the power supply board when you replace the fuse. Nec PTX-50XD1 plazma tv's power board fizzed a while ago and looks like others on here were working toward finding out exactly which power board from AWA would be the correct one as there was some...

The best and sureshot way of obtaining the correct one is by part number that is printed on the board itself. If you can just remove the back cover and let me know the same I will find you a replacement in a jiffy! If you are not able to figure out which of them is the part number get me all the numbers(there should be only 3 of them, part number, serial number and board number) and I will figure it out and get you the link to the replacement board.

My vizio is three years old one day watching it and then off no picture no sound no led light is there a reset or a fuse

Had EXACT same thing happen this week. Same TV as yours, 3 yrs old (purchased Feb 2008, Costco). TV wouldn't turn on, and usually does a "click-click" when you insert the power cord and now nothing.

Solution - had to replace a single $1 fuse.

1) Put tv face down on a flat surface
2) remove legs
3) remove back (there's like 30 screws with 3 different sizes/threadings)
4) right where the power connects up to the big main brown circuit board, there's 2 fuses flanking the sides of a white clip.
5) I test the fuses and the one on the left blew out.
6) Fry's + $5 for 5-pack of Slow Blow 8amp 250v fuse = fixed TV.

I would bet that it's the same for you. A little labor, but much cheaper than a new tv or repair shop.

Note, the fuse is a litte hard to remove, just try to put something underneath it or maybe even pry it out with plyers. It's ceramic so pretty hard to break but still don't squeeze with the plyers too hard.

You'll need the 5mm x 20mm, ceramic, slow blow out 8amp 250v fuse. Radio Shack doesn't carry it. Fry's does. As I'm sure other places online will as well.

Sony str-de845 Powers up, relay clicks, fuses BLOW!

This condition, may be produced by defective components (Q506, Q507). you can remove those transistor, replace the fuses, power-on and wait for relays click. if the fuses not blown again, them replace both transistor.

My dead 42" plasma - power problem

I went to Radio Shack and bought a 4 pack of 6.3amp 250v glass fuses (5x20)...stuck one in and it works like a charm.

Anyone know of any problem using a 6.3amp fuse instead of an 8amp one? I am thinking it just would blow out sooner...and I have 3 more I can go through until I find an 8amp fuse...am I crazy?
