Question about Hotpoint 30Inch Freestanding Electric Range RB758DPWW

1 Answer

I put a metal dish strainer with a plastic silverware holder in my Hotpoint/GE RB758DPWW electric oven to get it out of the way and forgot about it - it resulted in a small fire with lots of black smoke and the plastic melted over the heating element and over the bottom of the oven. Is it ok to just carefully scrape the plastic off the element or should I replace the heating element? Also is it ok to carefully scrape it off the bottom? (it is a self-cleaning oven). I can not find the manual. Is it even safe to use the oven at all again? It's been quite a while since I've been able to use it so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cleaning off the element and the liner will not cause a problem. Turning on the element will cause smoke till all residue is gone but will cause no problem. Turn it on to self clean after getting off the large pieces will get rid of everything left. Again no problem.

Door will not shut when upper silverware holder is in

Make sure you are installing that silverware holder properly. The little tabs of the silverware holder are supposd to go over and around the mating bars of the upper rack. Barring that, your upper rack may be pulled (bent) out, and you may have to push it (hard) to get it back in shape.

No heating, turntable does not turn, but clock & lights work.

Check to make sure the plastic on the shelve holders or tuntable guide did not wear and expose metal. If these holders or brackets are wore and exposed metal it shorted out your micro wave. They need to be replaced and a fuse needs to be replaced inside the control panel,

Soap left in dispenser. dried soap on dishes and siverware

After the fill cycle, check to make sure you have enough water in the dishwasher to wash effectively. You may need to have your fill valve replaced. You can test this by adding perhaps a liter of water to see if it makes a difference

Silverware container

If we are talking about the quiet partner 3 the silverware container can actual hang more effectively on the lower dish rack itself as opposed to on the door. The flap also does just snap on. Hold the back side of the metal with your thumb while pusing with even pressure on the plastic flap. I still reccomend though hanging the whole assembly on the outside of the lower rack.

FDW60 Dishwasher

HI
The strainer is located directly under the lower sprayer arm. When the strainer becomes clogged with food and detergent debris, the dishwasher may flood or overfill. On some dishwashers, the strainer is a plastic or metal component consisting of two semicircular halves. To remove this type of strainer, pry it up. On other dishwashers, the strainer is a one-piece component. To remove this type, remove the cap that holds the sprayer arm on its shaft. Then remove the sprayer arm and the strainer.

Wash the strainer in the kitchen sink with water and a mild household detergent. Use a fairly stiff brush to get all the debris out of the holes and slots in the strainer. Rinse the strainer well and replace it. If part of the strainer lifts out for regular cleaning, check it and clean it -- if necessary -- after each load of dishes is washed.

Microwave turntable

The solution is very simple. Unplug the microwave first. Remove the round dish. Remove the circular riing with the rollers and set aside with the dish. Carefully with a butter knife, pry up the coupler and set aside. Examine to make sure it isn't broken or cracked where it slips over the motor shaft. Remove 5 Phillip head screws from the bottom pan and it hinges down out of the way exposing the motor. Remove 2 screws holding the motor, slip off the plastic dual flat connector and slip back onto a new motor $52.25 + shipping from GE parts. Remember your actual MW Model number is NOT XL-1800 but it is on a metal tag inside the MW on the left side. Put the motor screw in as removed so the shaft is free to stick up the hole in the bottom of the MW. Put the pan screws back up, put the coupler on, the ring in and then the dish and line the slots of the dish up with the star coupler so it catches. Turn on MW, touch the turntable button and make sure it is "ON" and not "OFF" and it should be, with the door shut, turning like a quiet little top as new.
