Spybot ressolved thanks guru, I now run the 1.5 version of spybot and seems not to have any problems, updated, immunized and scanned o.k with clean results and no messages popping up.thankyou for guiding me in the right direction.i'm not sure if you got the speed test results as someelse replied back.i must have done something wrong.for 15mb file results were: 323.94sec, line speed 387 kbps(0.39)mbps, download 48kb/s (0.05)mb/s. that test was run through oz broadband test and i did another to compare comparison through speed the results were: download 426kb/s upload 94kb/s ping 120ms distance <50m. the other person roughly explained that it was just the measument used to calculate files comming to me and files going out,but didn't say whether this is the right reading i should this test result are good one or a poor one.anyway thanks for helping rectify spybots problem,...... whiteox.....

Great! Glad spybot is there now - and even more that everything seems to be A-OK! Do you feel comfortable with using it, and did you set up the Tea Timer so you can control what happens with your registry?

No, I didn't see another post. Sorry. I did, however, send you some more information on our last one, with images. If you go back to that one, you will see that I had to post the images separately, it didn't come through properly the first time. But this should help us make sure your Internet connection is set up properly...

Just to give us a gauge, as I am in the US and not sure where you are, I went to the oz speed test and ran it as well. Choosing from the Australian list, using the (15MB) OptusNet mirror, I got:
245.01 secs
512 kbps line speed (0.51 Mbps)
64 KB/s download speed (0.06 MB/s)
Using one a little closer to home -, in FL:
49.92 secs
2.51 Mbps (2511 kbps)
314 KB/s (0.31 MB/s)
Using the test provided by my ISP (the internet service provider - in my case the phone company) my typical download speed is 4.5 Mbps and upload speed of 450Kbps. Just as a frame of reference, what I pay for is 6.0Mbps down and 768 Kbps up...

I think based on these results, we can draw certain conclusions, regarding the cause(s) of speed variances, aside from the dial-up vs. DSL controversy:
- The speed or level of service that you are subscribed to receive (what you signed up for and are likely paying for).
- Speed is going to be limited to what the server you are connecting to can serve up. In other words, you can't get it faster than they can give it.
- Location of the server can definitely make a difference - for instance, when the server is in Australia (half the world away from me) my speed is dramatically decreased.
- Completely out of our control is the number of users and their activity levels when we are trying to download, upload, or test.

So, as to the question of whether your speeds are OK or not, my opinion is that they are on the "majorly" slow side. If you take a look at, you will see that the standards for ADSL2 (which we don't have here yet) are 12.0 Mb/s down and either 1.0 or 3.5 Mb/s up. It could be just that the test was run from a server that had either severe limitations, or that it was quite far away, and the best test would probably be something available through the company providing your service. If you don't come close to the speeds you are supposed to achieve (and I am guessing you might have an issue there), then I would say the company you deal with needs to do something to correct the problem.

In regard to the first answer you were given on this particular question, (I went to your profile to look it up) I don't like to be critical of other experts, as everyone has their own opinions and experiences. However, in this case, I have to disagree with one thing, and that is that there IS a significant difference between dial-up and DSL. If one downloads at 5.4 Mbps, for example, as opposed to 54 kbps, the download speed would be exactly 1,024 times faster. This is a much bigger difference than 2 or 3, as was stated...

At any rate, I would say that you should check on what you are supposed to get, we'll keep working to make sure your settings are right (see the previous post), and we'll get you to the best we can! And with that, I am going to call it a night as it is past midnight here. Have a good day/night, and look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Thank you as always for using and rating FixYa!

I bought my lap top 5 months ago and now the speed is so slow because of viruses, malwares, worms and trojan now i want to restore it from its original state is reformatting my lap top the best option if...

If you have system disks that are able to give you a clean install, then fine, put your system disk in the DVD drive and start it from the disk. What ever you do format your drive straight away and then when that has been done, close the laptop down and remove the power source and battery to ensure the RAM is empty of possible virus and malware.
Re install the battery and adapter and start the system with the system disk allowing a complete install and format of the hard drive again.
If you have only got your rescue partition on the hard drive, that will be infected, so you must install a known good antivirus, anti malware programme before you even think about reloading your system!
Don't forget to download all the new device drivers from the laptop manufacturer.

Sir i have a problem with laptop,its effected from a.exe do i remove it,please help.i am usin gxp {profesional}

You will have to try a bunch of different software to get rid of this. Let's start you off from the top.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

Spybot Search & Destroy. (When installing Spybot, make sure to uncheck TeaTimer.exe. In other words, don't install it!)

AVG Anti-Rootkit Free.

You will need to download each utility. After installing them, restart your computer. After the restart, open up NOD32 Anitvirus and update its security definitions file. After it has been updated, perform an in-depth scan on your entire computer.

After NOD finishes, exit the utility and open Malwarebytes. Update Malwarebytes' security definition files. Afterward run a full scan on your entire computer. After the scan finishes, remove anything found (restart if necessary).

After Malwarebytes finishes, open up Ad-Aware. Update Ad-Aware's security definition files. Afterward run a full scan. If anything is found, remove it and if necessary, restart your computer.

After Ad-Aware finishes, open up Spybot Search & Destroy. Update Spybot's files then exit Spybot. Now open up Spybot again and select the category, "Immunize." After the automatic scan finishes, select, "Immunize" at the top of the aplication. After immunization is complete, exit Spybot. Now open up Spybot, again. After Spybot loads run the scanner (Press, "Check for Problems"). After the scan finishes, remove anything found then restart if necessary.

After Spybot finishes, open up AVG Anti-Rootkit Free. After the application finishes loading, perform an in-depth scan of all hard-drives. If anything is found, remove it then restart your computer.

If the virus remains after following the steps above you will have to get your computer repaired as it only gets trickier from here.

Let me know how it turns out for you. Don't hesitate to let me know if you need any more assistance.

I can solve your virus problem and the other issue might be resolved in the process.

First run a scan with this online scanner (Use internet explorer to start the scanner):

After that scan finishes and has cleaned anything found, run this online scanner (Use internet explorer to start the scanner):

After that scan finishes and cleaned anything found download and install the free trial of ESET NOD32 antivirus. Yes, you just scanned with that utility, however the downloadable version has a startup scan that checks any files that start with the system. If any malicious ones are located they are quarantined awaiting your decision to restore them or remove them.

After you install the scanner restart your computer! Regardless if it asks you to or not, restart your computer, then update the security definitions of scanner, then perform and in-depth scan on all hard-drives. After the scan finishes and has removed any malicious files, download and install the free version of Ad-Aware:

Once again, after you install it restart your computer. After the restart update the security definitions then perform a Full Scan. After the scan is complete and has removed any intrusions download and install Spybot Search & Destroy. NOTE: Do NOT install TeaTimer(.exe)! You will be asked if you want it during the installation of Spybot. This utility will cause a possibly fatal conflict with NOD32 and can cause complications with your system! So please DO NOT install TeaTimer.

After you install Spybot, restart your computer. After the restart update the security definitions of spybot and run a scan. After the scan completes remove any entries found then download and install AVG Anti-Rootkit Free:

After installation restart your computer. After the restart perform an in-depth scan of all your hard-drives. After the scan download and install CCleaner.

After installing CCleaner you do not have to restart your computer. Simply start the application and run the cleaner. This will clean out the temporary directories of web browsers and popular applications where viruses will sometimes nest themselves waiting to strike. Cleaning out these directories often helps keep your system clean. After the cleaning finishes click on the, "registry" tab. Now scan for any issues. If anything is found select to fix the issues. When prompted, make a backup of the files and save this file to a location you can remember! If for any reason removing these registry entries causes abnormalities you will double-click the file that you just saved and it will restore everything that was just erased. This is your computer's life-line if for some reason a critical system registry entry was erased. On the bright side, removing these issues from the registry might fix your shut-down issue.

I hope you get this virus removed. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Intermet Explorer will not stay open!

Hey Steve,

Welcome to Fixya, my name's Chris.
This is unfortunately a common problem, known as malware. Fortunately it has a simply solution.
You need to download Spybot from here:

As you cannot open your internet browser, the best idea would be to download the Spybot.exe file onto a friend's computer, or at an internet cafe, and copy it over to a USB drive or cd-r/dvd-r. Then install it onto your computer.
Run it, search for updates and download them. Then click Scan for Problems. It'll take a while, maybe 20 minutes or so, depending on the specs of your machine. Don't use Messenger or browsers or anything while you are doing this. When it has finished, click Fix Selected Problems.
Then click the Immunize tab. Click Immunize.

That should fix it for you, mate. If you noticed that SPybot wanted you to use Elevated Administrator Privileges when Immunizing, just navigate to User Accounts in Control Panel and turn off User Control Access, reboot, and Immunize again. I think this is just an annoying feature of Vista, however.

For general further maintenance, you could download ncleaner from here:

and install it, Clean, Cleanup Registry etc

Good Luck!

PS Try downloading Firefox and having that as an emergency in case you need a working browser in the future, or better, having it as your default browser. Chris :)

Free antivirus scan

Download spybot here
And avg antivirus here

Install them and run complete scan from safe mode, starting from spybot. Do not download any other free antivirus, many are fake and will install more malaware.
If the above cannot fix the problem, then easiest thing to do is saving a backup of your data and reinstalling Windows.

E machines very very slow

Do you have anti-spyware software on the machine? I recommend two because none of them detect everything.

Try these two that are free and good. If they get the pc running better make sure you tell her to ues the update function and then run them at least once a week:

Spybot: Search & Destroy:

Also do a defragment on the hard drive. Go to Start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk defragmenter.

Do all these and let me know how it's running. If this solves the problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If not, don't rate it yet just add a comment and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks.

P.S. After you download the two programs, run the updates before you check for spyware. And with Spybot, after you're done checking and removing, go the immunize section and make sure to use the immunize function. It will protect you against the known spyware.
If you need help with these just holler.Thanks. Let me know what happens.
