Question about HP Computers & Internet

HP DV4 1300: laptop. Screen is flimmering/dimming/blacking out. When I position the screen differently the picture comes back for a while then starts doing the flimmering/dimming/backing out again. Is this due to a faulty invertor, cable or both?\r\nThanks, Peter

This is interesting - so random! I unfortunately can't check it out as I had the screen cable changed and not it is working fine. By the way I spoke to 2 repair shops and at both places I was told that the DV4 is known to have that problem.

It might be a power issue. We had/have the same problem. If they use a power cable with 3 prongs the screen does this problem. If they use a 2 prong adapter then it does not happen. We had the same problem at two different companies. One uses Dell the other uses HP.

My hp laptop screen goes black after being on for a few minutes

The problem could be the backlight or its inverter is bad. IF picture remains but lights only go out. Also it is normal for the screen to go black if the laptop is not used.

If the picture itself remains on the display but it just goes dim, try turning up the brightness, if noting happens, most likely the backlight of the screen or its inverter is or has gone bad.

Would need to be confirmed in person.

If the picture does not remain on the screen and the laptop shuts off, your charger might not be working, and your battery is low.

Would need to be inspected in person.

How do I turn up the brightness on a HP Probook 6550b?

PLEASE RATE ME!
go to the search icon under start. search brightness. it will tell you step by step what to do.
Every laptop is different, so adjusting the brightness or contrast on your laptop may vary from the steps provided on this page. However, understanding the process of how to adjust the brightness or contrast will help you change your settings.
Most laptops adjust their brightness and other settings using the function key in conjunction with another key. For example, pressing and holding the function key (abbreviated as "Fn") and pressing the up or down arrow keys as shown in the picture below, increases and decreases the brightness.

Video problem. Pavilion ZE4805US laptop

Most likely it is either a bad lcd inverter, due to the fact that you have clear picture on an external monitor. The inverter reduces the voltage coming from the motherboard to a lower level in order to power the lcd and the backlight. If this goes bad then you either get a picture randomly, a dim picture, or no picture on the lcd.

Laptop screen flickering in hp laptop. had it for 1 year. screen stays on but flickers black very quickly

You most likely have a faulty CCFL lamp, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

You most likely have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp or simply the video cable needs reseating. After reseating the video cable and the problem is still there then :-

HP dv9000 won't come out of black screen.

You could have a faulty video card, or a faulty inverter, (this supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp), or a faulty CCFL lamp.

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a very dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
