Question about Kenmore Dishwashers

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore Quitemode 4 dishwasher and the detergentdispenser won't empty. The door opens but it is full of caked on dishwasher detergent. I cleaned it out and ran it again, same problem. I am using the same detergent. It is as though the water isn't getting to the detergent but there is definitely water. Any ideas? Thanks

Ge potscrubber 700 dishwasher - the soap dispenser cover is locked and will not open. I have run the dishwasher several times and tried to force it but it will not budge. any suggestions?

Soap dispenser cover will not open until front knob is at 4:30 or 5 o'clock. Turn knob to 5 o'clock and jiggle dispenser cover. If cover still does not open, is detergent caked such that door won't open? If yes, remove caked detergent. If no, disconnect power at breaker. GE repair manual says to remove screws for inner door panel and inspect detergent dispenser mechanism with lever and trip lever for broken or binding parts.

Kenmore dishwasher. The upper rack is not getting clean. Even very light residue remains. And, detergent is left in door at end of cycle. The bottom is filling up, so I don't think it's the intake valve....

I find it odd that the dishwasher is filling with cold water if the water is hot at the sink. It sounds like the dishwasher is connected to the cold water line rather than the hot. Check under your sink; if you've got standard plumbing, the dishwasher supply line should be connected to the left water pipe.
Regardless, the water temperature doesn't fully explain the symptoms, especially the detergent left in the door (assuming you're using fresh detergent and it's not caking in the door prior to washing).
I would check the blades again. Even thought they may appear clean, there may be debris in them that get forced into the openings during operation, but fall away from the openings when the water flow stops. Remove the blades, run water into them, then invert them to drain while rocking back and forth. If there's crud in them, you may need to do this several times.

Small door where soap goes does not open during cycle.

Most detergent cups are spring loaded and released by either a mechanical trip or by a bi-metal strip latch. If your model is a simple dial timer type, look for a mechanical linkage between the timer and detergent cover. If it is a touch panel control, look for the other type. The bi-metal strip type has a heating wire wraped around it that can open electrically or burn out physically.

Mechanical types can be checked by rotating the timer knob 360 degrees while watching the detergent cover linkage. Electrical types require use of an ohm meter to check the resistance of the heating element on the bi-metal strip.

If you are using powder type detergent, make sure it is not caked when added to the cup or it can jam the rotating type covers.

Try a different detergent such as the electrosol tablets. Also might add vinegar to an empty cycle to clean dishwasher, or with dishes.

Soap dispenser will not open in cycle

Hi Dookie1984

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is about: The small door that houses the dishwashing detergent (grain or gel) will not open during the dishwashing cycle. The detergent gets caked in that housing. This has happened about 10 times now in a row.

If it is still under warrenty it's time to make the call. If not then it may be time to consider whether it's more cost effective to repair or replace. Unfortunatly you won't be able to fix this and sometimes even the repairman can't. You can always utilize our Repair Directory if you decide to go in that direction.

run the machine with the cavity closed, but no detergent. see if it is open at the end. if it is, then its probably being overfilled or has enough residual build up on the pivot mechanism that it wont open. also, wash water may be getting to the detergent before it opens and then it cakes up and swells against the cavity door and impedes the normal opening event. you can check for clearance when the cav door is closed.
it is not likely the timer. running it empty will be a good way to know. it is released by an electrical mechanism. if the wires are damaged where they feed through the bottom of the unit into the door, it would be a reason it does not work. otherwise, the mechanism or electromechanical mechanism could be replaced as it is likely many times less expensive than timers. usually.
